Front Assist Sensitivity?

Featured Replies

is there a way to turn down the sensitivity for Front assist? I'm starting to get annoyed when the car is "too clever" and warns me when driving normally and it thinks I'm not going to break

Usually get a jolt too when reversing out of my driveway and a car is passing, even though i've seen it and i'm edging slowly it will kick in and give everyone a fright (including me - as the brake pedal goes all the way in)

Nope...

Really?! There is on the Mk1...

Another reason not to 'upgrade' to a Mk2 then. Plenty of them, it would appear.

It doesn't know you've seen it - if you're still moving, no matter how slowly, then it's going to take preventative action.

I was looking the other day if I could adjust mine and failed. It's not there.

I understand it’s there to protect you, but does seem a bit too aggressive

You don't say... My car is currently in the garage fixing the damage from being rear ended... Because the car thought it needed to brake.

ah man.....what did insurance have to say about that?

Well, i got rear ended, so the person behind me was legally at fault. But this is legally and ethically a slippery slope.

I fully sympathise, exactly the same nearly happened to me today. In 6 years of owning a Karoq this only activated twice for good reasons, in 4 months of the Kodiaq it’s activated over 12.

Same on the Superb Mk4. It is annoying and activates when not necessary. Can the dealer reduce the sensitivity, does anyone know?

In a month I think I’ve had it 5 times reversing out of my drive, in a supermarket car park, once passing a cyclist (safely - I’m a cyclist myself) during a 3 point turn, and pulling into a friends drive when it thought I’d hit a wall (front). Driving me nuts

Sorry to hear this. Are you taking legal action against Skoda? Was the damaged repaired properly? Was anybody injured? How did the driver of the car behind react?

A neighbour also got rear ended hard last week by a heavy van and it caused extensive damage, he's still waiting to hear if it's a write off as the rear airbags were deployed. This was after his Kodiaq stopped suddenly from 60mph after a large empty plastic bag floated in front of him in the wind. To add insult to injury, it was HIS fault not the van driver as dashcam evidence proved a dangerous sudden stop. He's now got lawyers involved to formally reject the car if it's repaired, fight his case against dangerous driving (unnecessary heavy braking) and he's already decided that his next car won't be from the VAG group and won't have front assist. His wife cancelled her Karoq order yesterday due to this incident. Thank heavens his kids and dog weren't in the back as there could've been a fatality, the 3rd row was really squashed. You wouldn't see the likes of Volvo installing something so dangerous, let alone unnecessary if one drives properly.

The more I'm hearing about this, the more I'm tempted to also reject my Kodiaq mk2. I'm surprised that no independent reviewer has mentioned this as it appears to be a very common problem that needs urgent attention.

I've asked my 2 local dealers and a respected VAG specialist. Sadly it can't be adjusted or disabled without voiding the warranty, service plan AND insurance. I hope that one day VAG will be forced to fix it before somebody dies.

They have! Look on the Parkers long term Kodiaq reviews.

Personally I’m torn I love the car and the tech but it’s not quite there yet.

New cars and software are likely to have teething issues and need to be ironed out through real world use… but these safety critical features really need to be resolved quickly and Škoda should be advising customers what to do in the event of a erroneous activation.

I get the impression Škoda are trying to minimise the issue to protect reputation/sales but personally I feel it’s a gamble as this could cause a fatality or serious injury.

The damage was fixed. But of course, it's still annoying.

As i was hit from behind the insurance covered everything, including some compensation for devaluation.

This also made that it was difficult to take legal action without running into a lot of cost. I have legal insurance, which covered part of the devaluation. But otherwise it's difficult to prove that something was wrong.

Did spend a couple of fridays at the dealership, so that they could download all the logs. This was apparently done in different stages. But the end result was that i got an official document saying 'the car did nothing wrong' from Skoda NL. Nothing else, no arguments, no data, nothing.

Got the latest updates last week, hope that they have learned something from this.

I have replied to a similar posting on the same problem. Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) can be turned off but that action comes with a warning and I don't know what the consequences might be. I sincerely doubt whether turning it off would invalidate warrant or insurance. If that is indeed the case, why allow it to be turned off in the first place?

...only temporarily disabled, it cannot be turned off or adjusted. More of us need to start rejecting these dangerous cars so that VAG get the message. I can see "AEBgate" being the next class action lawsuit after the diesel fiasco. This AEB is actually starting of affect Kodiaq and Superb sales in the UK.

Only 6 days to go and I get a refund for my rejected Kodiaq. I can't wait to wash my hands of this awful death-trap!

No, it's not. You are legally required to keep enough distance so you can safely stop if the car in fron of you suddenly stops. Before you ask, a dog, a jaywalker, an object.

Actually it is mentioned, quite recently I found a review about this. Check for materials made in SK, SL, PL, CZ - you can use the CC, I don't speak any, but is easy to understand the demonstration.
