New battery 027 or 096🙄

Featured Replies

Evening all, the battery on my fl octy vrs TDI (60) plate I think needs replacing it's been a bit slow starting for the last year or so and earlier today after doing it's Regan it took me 4 attempts to start. The current battery is a Bosch S5 005 027 the issue I have is that various sites say the correct battery is 027 others say 096 or even both. So does it really matter which one I get? The one on the car has been fine but I'm now wondering if it is the right one for my car or not? Any advice would be greatly appreciated 👍

BoschS5005242L x 175W x 190HWet 12V 63Ah 610A

What matters most is the Ah and A figures really, some 027 batteries meet the spec and so do some 096

Also make sure you buy the right size to fit the tray and the right posts.

Hi mate, thank you for your reply. Funnily enough that's the Bosch battery I was thinking of buying untill I saw that maybe I should be getting the 096! This battery I currently have has lasted me since aug21 on a 5 year warranty so not to bad I suppose,

The Bosch one in the 027 range appears to be one of the highest capacities  (63ah) in the group.

But there is also an Exide that is higher cca and ah for less money but less warranty

Which one would you choose mate?!

I would normally go for the same one fitted. Unless i had experienced trouble with it.

That's good enough for me mate 👍👍

Not sure if your petrol or diesel. Think 096 for diesel and 027 for petrol. Both should fit. I have 096 in both my octavias (diesel) same in an altea xl 1.9tdi. The newer octavia still has the insulated battery cover which is 096 size. Have used Tayna battery a few times and found them a lot cheaper than my local Mfactors and their service was really good. Not sure how the guarantee works. If it fails they may want it back but have had no problems so far. Think mine are yuasa which are about 3 years old

Hi mate, mines diesel have had the car nearly 8 yes so this will be the second time I will have had to change the battery (027) doesn't make it easy when you can have to sizes! Does it make a lot of difference having the 027 rather than the 096?

The difference between 027 and 096 should be cranking amps cca and capacity ah the 096 are usually higher but there are anomalies

The Bosch battery you have is better than some 096 batteries

This 096 for example is not as good.

Buying the same battery you have ensures it fits the tray and fittings if you opt for a different one you need to check the dimensions not forgetting the height, you don't want it touching the bonnet.

Maybe I'm wrong so I'm most probably guessing, but would my car have left Skoda with this size battery as surely you wouldn't down grade to call it that from an 096 to a 027 n have to get the correct battery cover as well?! I hear what your saying mate bout the higher ah etc, why can't it be simple one battery size etc etc!!

You are taking yourself down a rabbit hole worrying about 027 and 096 and "size"

What matters to the car is Cranking amps and capacity

027 and 096 refer to the actual physical dimensions of the battery

"For example, all 027 car batteries have a length of 242mm; a width of 175mm; and a height 190mm, whereas all 065 car batteries have a slightly smaller size with a length of 242mm; a width of 175mm and a height of just 175mm.

The size of battery your car needs will depend on several factors, including where its terminals sit and the size of the space available under the bonnet."

"An 096 battery is 278mm (L) x 175mm (W) x 190mm (H). Please note: Depending on the brand, there may be a slight 1-3% fluctuation in actual sizes.

The manufacturer say 027 because it will fit the tray for certain.

They picked Bosch because it meets the specification for the cars power needs.

You can fit an 096 if you need more power but don't go for one that has less , from what others have said an 096 fits their tray, hopefully they are secured properly.

My old skoda  had an 027 when I bought it. It was probably fitted as it was a cheaper option by the previous owner. My octavia and seat 1.9tdi both can cope with th 096 and so can my 12 plate 1.6tdi.

I have 096 now in all three.

What cranking amps and capacity did you opt for?

I've just seen a yuasa 5 year warranty 65ah with 640 cca £98 without fitting sounds good 👍

I have Yuasa in both my octavia and seat. Their 096 and 76ah 680. Had to buy a battery from local motorfaactors for my sons fabia. It was a lot smaller but cost me £120. Would have order from tayna but he was stranded in town and the AA said his battery was toast and wasn't taking any charge at all.

I don't remember ever having a yuasa in any of my cars but the reviews got nearly 5/5, could be worse tho as my misses has a Audi A3 TDI and her battery is £260 ISH as it's start/stop same as my sister's antara!

I hadnt come across them either apart from my ride on lawnmower. I went by the review and guarantee. My mate got a merc e class amg that his dad had. It had been sitting for a year or two and cost him £400 for a battery plus another £100 as car had to be scanned and coded when fitting the new battery by Mercedes. Something to do with intelligent charging?? His mechanic said if its not coded it can damage the new one.

Well, the stealership certainly saw your mate coming from some miles off!

That was from the local motor factors. Had to order in a special lithium battery  for him and mercedes had to code it. Suppose thats what you get when you have a mega luxury car. This car has everything you can think of. Its I think an e63 amg estate v8 4litre auto. Problem is he cant afford to run it very much. It was over £80,000 new. in 2015. Nice car but no thanks
