2010 Skoda Fabia VRS 1.4 DSG

Featured Replies

Hi people does anyone know of a reputable garage that can look to fit a new engine into my Fabia VRS 1.4 DSG

Sorry no.  A New Engine or a used engine?  Have you got one?

On the look out for a new/used engine was just wanting to know if there was anyone in west Yorkshire with knowledge of fitting a 1.4 twin charged engine that will be able to fit it. Didn't want to get an engine and then no one was able to fit it

Is the DSG OK?

& is your engine totally gubbed?  What is wrong with it other than being a 2010 CAVE?

EDIT.

Read your posts now from last June and watched the vid.

When you put the car into gear the car shakes and then when trying to set off the car stalls. In the video you can hear the car sounding really rough and a ticking/tapping sound is heard. No one around where I live has any knowledge of these cars.  Just at a loss with what to do.. don't if the engine has gone or gearbox or potentially both..

Any help will be gratefull

I'm afraid I can't advise on where you can go to get a new engine fitted.

However, I had very similar codes and symptoms when my timing chain jumped. I have a trusted VW specialist who removed the engine after confirming there was no piston to valve contact (I was very lucky). I then had the top-end rebuilt anyway (with the better KB pistons etc) by an engine specialist and put back in.

So you have two options, both of which will ideally need a VW/VAG specialist:

1. Replace the whole thing with a reconditioned engine.

2. Get yours checked to see if there's been any internal damage, cylinder compression etc. If you've gotten away with it, you might be able to just get a new chain kit put on.

Does sound like somthing is hitting something and not very healthy at all. I would get a compression test done ASAP and if its good then take it from there. Try a length of garden hose. One end to your ear and move the other around engine to see if you can narrow down where the noise is coming from. Could even be broken valve springs or very loose timing chain. Not sure if your engine has a balance chain/oilpump? I wouldn't be running it at all until the chain is checked. It may have just jumped one or two teeth and not caused too much damage but if its jumped once it probably will jump again!!

I once had an alternator bearing fail and the tension on the belt puled the alternator pulley/fan so it was hitting alternator body making exactly the same sound. Not bad at idle but worse the more revs I gave it.

Thanks Boycie and Alasdair1 when I last checked it was throwing up a P0012(15) fault code which is camshaft position when googling it it comes back as a possibility of timing chain being faulty . If it is a faulty timing chain would that also cause the engine to cut off soon as I put the car into gear?

I assume you mean driving in gear and not with foot on clutch and in gear. If the timing is way out and if you have beeen lucky and not damaged valves I reckon you would be well down on engine power which could stall it.

With that noise its like something like a chain slapping off something or similar. What mileage is the car and has it had a timing chain done in the past

As said don't run it till you find out whats gone wrong. You could be lucky and have minimal damage so far. A chain kit is a lot cheaper than a head rebuild or engine swap.

Sorry didnt realise it was an auto. Havent much experience with them. Maybe the ecu cutting engine due to fault when trying to drive?

Have you had it scanned recently for codes?

Alasdair

I strongly suspect the timing has slipped, there's nothing wrong with the CPS, it's the cam position itself that's the problem, since the HPFP is generally also driven by the cam then the other codes confirm the issue.

UPDATE.. had compression test done and everything thing is fine there. Had the timing chain replaced but still the noise and engine spluttering is still there. My mechanic has suggested that it could be the injectors that are at fault.. would this be the case?

Are you able to get or have you had a fault code reading done again now that that's all been checked?

The injectors might well not be running correctly but as @sepulchrave suggested, it will most likely be because of a fault elsewhere throwing them off. You could also get the values from them read while the diagnostic reader is plugged in. That might give more clues.

@HeavyMetalRich the codes that are coming up now are cylinder 1 and 2 random misfire

You could swap coil packs around to see if the fault moves. These cars do sometimes eat their packs and plugs I believe.
