Things I didn't know about modern Octavias.... 1.) wireless key charging?

Featured Replies

One of the reasons I rejected the Motorpoint 71 reg Octavia iV was that one key was dead.  (That and a scraping rear wiper, no tyre inflation kit, and no 3-year service info - plus my selfish reasons that it turned out I couldn't put a charging point on my listed house, and we couldn't fit the dog crate in the boot without taking up almost the entire space).

BUT when the collection driver came, he put both keys on the phone-charging mat in front of the gear lever... and by the time he'd done all his checks (30 minutes?), both keys were working.

So are the keys rechargeable on a wireless charger?  That's brilliant.

Would be surprised if they are. I never heard anyone anywhere mentioning this. And when I changed the battery in the key for the first time, there was a regular battery inside. Not a charging one.

The regular Octavia keys have CR2032 lithium batteries, but perhaps the iV's keys are rechargeable? We need an iV owner to confirm what the manual says.

No they just use standard CR2032 batteries so definitely not wireless charging capable.

Right, I shouldn't jump to conclusions.  Just strange that the one key was completely dead but then revived after sitting on the charging mat for half an hour.

There is a spot for the key where it will work even with empty battery. It is not on a charging pad though.

The transponder needed to turn on the "ignition" is passive so will work even with no battery in the key, the battery in the key is only needed for remote locking/unlocking.

That is at the bottom of the cup holder.  If the battery was very weak it might have been detected that close to the cup holder.

The instructions on unlocking the car when the battery is dead tell you to put the key in the cup holder to start the engine.

All I know is that the one key was useless at unlocking the car right next to the driver door... then it was put on the charging mat for 30 minutes.... then it worked from across the street!   If there is just a CR battery in it, it's puzzling.

Key fobs are 100% not wireless rechargeable on the MK IV's
