What Ea888 version is on my vRS 2022

Featured Replies

Hello all, i would like to know how to identify which generation of ea888 engine do i have on my vRS 2022. Is there a place which its written?

You can check on a VAG website using the engine number prefix (3 or 4 letters) This engine code may also be listed on the B pillar label. Your engine will be at least Gen3.

I cant find it anywhere on the b pillar

Check your engine number.

Engine number is dlb 037331

Is your Octavia a Vrs 245?

According to VAG website, EA888 DLB is a gen3 engine.

Are you sure your engine series is EA888 and not EA113?

You will need to tag one of the Vrs owners to confirm, I did see engine code DLB(A) listed as being for EA888/3 - but could not find codes for EA113.

If your engine has a cam chain, it's EA888 - EA113 uses a cam belt.

Do you have a picture of your engine bay? Gen 3 engine has a different position of the oil cap than gen 4 engine.

I’d always assumed they were evo4 like the golf gti mk8.  The mk8.5 GTI is also evo4 with the same 195kW (265PS) as the mark 4.5 Octavia RS.

But the OP's car isn't  a facelift it's a mk4 so a 245PS...... As per their pic of it. ;)

I saw somewhere DNPA is the gen4 and DLBA is the gen3, but still not sure. Wanted to confirm it before buying any mods etc

So this is weird, why is the mk4 coming with an ea888 gen3 ? or has it been implemented with the 2022/2023 models ?

I don’t know but I’d like to find out.  As as I can tell the evo3 stopped being used around 2020 or so.  From memory the gen 4 motor switch from IHI turbos to Garrett for the GTI engines or Continental for the higher outpost engines.  It also gain variable valve lift on the exhaust cam to go along with the variable intake and exhaust cam timing.

as I said I would have thought the mark 4 onwards would be evo4 and certainly your 4.5. I’ll take a look at my 4.5 when I pick it up.

If these import the car then they should have the answers.

In some countries with lower emission standards, newer VAG cars (2020 and onwards, not sure till when) were delivered still with a EA888 gen 3 engine. Like New Zealand, Australia and as according to your post, also Mauritius.

Certainly looking like NZ Mark4 models at least the earlier ones were evo3 judging by the engine shots in YouTube videos. The facelift seems to be evo4. So Garrett turbo instead of IHI, higher fuel pressure, variable valve lift on the exhaust side and steel instead of plastic oil pan. There may be more changes.
