Help needed with updating the Sat-Nav maps on Columbus system

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

I'm hoping that someone here can give me some guidance on updating the sat-nav maps on my Octavia Mk3 - It's got a Columbus system.

Apologies in advance for being a bit (very) clueless with this. I'm currently muddling my way through doing this with the help of Google. What I'm looking to do is just update the map for Uk/Ireland only.

What I've done so far is:

Gone to the Skoda update portal and entered my cars VIN

This is the download option presented to me:

I've downloaded this zip file - it's called HIGH12f_P350_EU_202345.zip - and have extracted it to the root of a SD card. This is the file structure:

It s got separate 'metainfo2.txt' files in the root folder and in the two subfolders. I think I only need the 'Mib1' folder but I'll leave them both on the card.

I only want to update the map for 'UKIreland_eu'. How do I exclude the updates for the other countries? Is it a case of just deleting the folders for the other countries, or do I need to edit the 'metainfo2.txt' file in the Mib1 folder?

I already tried the map update earlier today, but I started getting a warning about the car battery  running low. So I started the car - when I did this, the infotainment unit restarted and the map updating stopped.

The sat-nav seems to be ok, but I'm worried that there may be an issue, as the map updates were interrupted before completing.

For info, this is the current software version on my car:

and this this is the update option I get when I insert the SD card in the car:

Any help/guidance that anyone can me with this would be appreciated. As I said, I really just need the map updates for UK and Ireland only.

Thanks

I have an MIB1 Columbus system (MIB1 High) - I think last year was the final year updates were released for this model but I'll leave it to my learned colleagues here at Briskoda to clarify.

Wouldn't mind being able to update the maps again. Previously I've only ever updated the entire EU pack as I didn't want to disturb anything but I do agree that we should have the ability to update specific countries alone for ease of use.

There are a number of postings on how how to do this; go and check out https://www.briskoda.net/forums/forum/7-audio-electronics-and-security/

part of Briskoda, but broadly its like this:

Download the update from either the Briskoda/VW site or the Skoda update portal.

Get a fresh 64G/128G SD card and make sure it is formatted in FAT32/vFAT format.

Decompress the .7zip file and put the resulting files (top directory has MIB1 and MIB2 folders in it) onto the SD Card

Put the SD card into SD1 slot - remove any other SD cards

Switch on the MIB system

A message should appear saying there are updates:

OR

Go to Nav, press Settings, Go to Map Version information and Press the Update button.  The SD button should be highlighted.  Select it.

Ideally you should have the car on a battery charger/maintainer or have the engine running whilst you update the maps.

IF you speak to @pab567, he might be able to point you in the direction of update firmware for your system to improve reliability.

Thanks for your help with this. I continued the update today, and it picked up where it stopped yesterday. I kept the car running while I was doing it.

It appears to have completed ok and the map version has changed to 2024 - previously it was 2013).

Old version:

New version:

and everything has status 'Ok'

TBH. I'll do more research before thinking about doing a firmware update....

Thanks again for your  help 👍🙂

Are using a Mac or PC?  A Mac can add other files which have to removed according to some posters on this topic.
