This is what the old thrower ring looks like, that I lifted off this site. E76A33F3-D702-4269-B19B-E113022D2257.jpeg.91ce30684e3ef555fa1885878dece93b.thumb.jpeg.2d1816edda9d2d43c28337a290d8eb23.jpeg

The driveshaft would be behind this ring. Wheel bearing, hub between thrower and camera .

Flat face towards ABS sensor, from memory.

Yes, as said flat face towards the hub bearing, these have been changed in design to make them a bit simpler - maybe, I found it impossible to fit a new one on one side of my wife's 2015 Polo due to corrosion on the drive shaft - even after trying to knock most of it off - kept breaking off some "teeth"!

Edit:- handy picture of the end of the new driveshaft - so that is what they look like new, wrt the groove for that shield.

Thanks. I thought so.

The new driveshaft has a metal ring, unlike old driveshaft which had a thicker thrower ring. That new plastic thrower fits perfectly in it, after of course messing about fitting in the metal ring.

Flat face towards bearing, abs fits well when held separately without driveshaft. Haynes manual showed same as what you said, but old thrower is concaved facing bearing, appears opposite way, hence Q. Ta

I think that when the shaft rusts up it does tend to try to distort that shield.

They seem to be missing on all my cars that I changed bearings on. I assume they have either disintegrated or not been replaced. I didn't replace them as I didn't know they were there. Are they needed??

The drive shaft on the left looks sturdier/heavier. Difficult to tell if the length and diameters are the same. It might be my imagination or eyesight but the left one looks just slightly longer.

Sorted.

This is the correct driveshaft. It concertinas, pulls out in length from inner CV joint. The plastic thrower fits as said above. Flat to the outside into bearing facing towards wheel.

Cheers
