Help with SD Card issues

Featured Replies

I have used my Bolero unit to play my media files without any issues up to now. But quite suddenly my SD card failed in some way.

Anyway, I bought a new card and filled it with mp3 files but the Bolero unit doesn't see the card. Previously (I am an Apple mac user) I used iTunes to export a playlist to my SD card and it worked a treat. Now a few years ago Apple withdrew iTunes and replaced it with the Music app. I created my playlist in Music but there is no export facility. So I tried dragging the playlist - but that didn't work. I managed to drag the songs onto the card but still. nothing. I've tried various SD Card formats.

Can anyone point me at a tutorial for this please?

I have a mk.4 SE L I have no idea what the entertainment unit is but I use Media player, and a 256gb SanDisk Ultra stick.

I did have a problem with SD cards but it turned out I had recorded with random tracks selection on and the system did not like it,

Not much of an explanation, sorry, but my sons usually put me right, I hope it gives you food for thought.

Thanks for your reply. If all else fails I'll try using media player.

Have you Named the new SD card??

It seems they need a directory, so give it a name.

I gave the SD card the same name as I gave the previous one that gave up the ghost. But should I put all my songs in a directory? Good idea which I did immediately and this time the unit said "Reading the SD card" then nothing. So I think you may have pointed me in the right direction. I shall experiment with putting a couple of songs in a folder and seeing if it works.

Thanks very much. I'll update the thread with the result.

Well, I have tried all ways of getting back to how it used to be with my Bolero unit, so I must now suspect that the unit itself is faulty. I've now given up on this "nice to have" facility. Shame, but there it is :(

I've got the Bolero unit in my Yeti and found it could at times be temperamental about the file information - something that would play without a problem on another media player either wouldn't play or played in alphabetical track list order rather than album track list order for example. So I do understand your frustration. So on the basis that I have zero expertise here but you don't seem to have anything to lose I wonder whether there is a clue in your earlier post "I am an Apple mac user (and) I used iTunes to export a playlist to my SD card and it worked a treat. Now a few years ago Apple withdrew iTunes and replaced it with the Music app". Could it be that in the conversion some piece of information isn't being transferred over? Is it worth trying converting a few tracks using a different converter? Perhaps something like VLC, which I've used in the past (but not for a while now) but seems well respected. And rather than just dragging them drag them straight onto the card I'd be tempted to put them into a named folder. Personally I'd probably set up two or three folders and put a track or two in each.

Thanks Paul for your post. I am experimenting but getting nowhere. I suspect that something is awry with the Bolero unit itself. The files play beautifully on my imac, ipad and phone so I'm happy with the files themselves.

I will try and experiment with the file format like you said. Meanwhile I have posted for help on the Apple forum but so far no help there.

Isd the SD card formatted correctly i.e. FAT 32 rather than NTFS?

Oh yes - FAT32. Thanks👍
