Rear differential help!

Featured Replies

Anyone know where to pick up a second hand rear diff for a Skoda Superb mk3, 2017, 2.0 Sportline 4x4 pls?

New to all this so any help would be much appreciated.

What started out as road noise, thought it was a bearing… eventually, a garage confirms the above and quoting £950 (with 3 year warranty) on a second hand refurb. Reliable garage, so not questioning them, more hopeful I can source it cheaper… otherwise with labour I’m looking at £1500 🙄

Hi,

Well, unless a withdrawn one from a wreck Superb, I've no idea.

It's actually the kind of part, that last the life of the vehicle, thus not common to find the the second hand market...

Do you have an idea, why it started failing ? It's quite rare, apart confusion between rear diff and Haldex drain plugs 😬...

Hmmmm… Just a thought. They’re absolutely sure it’s not tyre sawtoothing, cos that can create a horrible drone which could be mistaken for a worn diff. Have they tried swapping the fronts to the rear?

I had both rear bearing checked, as well as the tyres for mis-shape..

Not heard of saw toothing?

Could try swapping the tyres over to se if it makes any difference to noise.

Saw tooth is a well known issue on VAG cars though. Workshop manual then recommends swapping front ´b rear tyres. Noise should decreasing within 500-1000m. If it doesn’t, manual then recommends swapping FL-FR tyres and drive for another 500-1000km.

I would. After all, it’s just going to cost you an hour of your free time at the most.
