Test driving November 2018 1.5tsi Octavia

Featured Replies

Hi all, new here and have been reading a lot recently as looking for a new car. I am after more room than my 2015 golf and have been swayed to an octy or superb.

One nice example of the Octavia near me is a 2018 Octavia, with 193k km. I have seen about the 'kangarooing' issue on this forum. What should I look for in the drive and in the service history to see if this has been sorted or not?

Also, would a slightly older and higher milage 1.6 diesel superb be a better option?

Thanks in advance all!

I've got a 2024 1.5 Octavia up to now I have not suffered the kangarooing but if you have it in first gear and are just trickling along 5 mph you can feel something but soon as you put your foot down its gone.

@fc_jams @GConn The reported issue sounds to me like a less than perfect idle stabilisation control.

The 2018 Kangerooing issue with a 1.5 TSI ACT and the Patches / Fixes really has nothing to do with a 2024 car.

The only way to know if a car is issue free is driving them.

After 6 years you would seriously hope the issue was revolved after the Service Campaign / DVLA RECALL action has been carried out.

Someone has been getting plenty use out of the car getting to 193,000 km.

Has it had a new turbo? Petrol turbos last well if serviced correctly, but you're getting into the mileage territory where a turbo failure would not be unexpected.

I'm guessing you also have a GPF (the petrol equivalent of a DPF) on that vehicle.

I don't know how long they last or what happens if they fail or how much they cost to sort out if they fail.

Early failure is usually caused by damage from another failure, AFAIK.

If it runs smoothly, drives well, and the price is right, then you might have a bargain.

A lot of the things that could be expected to go wrong or wear out will likely have been repaired/replaced.

193Km in 7 years is quite a reliability endorsement in itself.
