wipers turning on without being asked to

Featured Replies

Hi all,

really randomly on the drive to work this morning, wiper stalk in the off position, the front wiper kept going on it's own. I'm not sure if it happened when I turned the steering wheel right or it was sheer luck.

has anyone ever had this before? It stopped after I washed the screen a few times, and turned them up to full and off again.

i don't want a gremlin car :( ...

It does have an issue with a warning light on the dash for the dynamic turning lights which I hope is a sensor for how level the car is. the matrix lights still work but the dipped beam is at it's bottom setting when active to avoid dazzling others. booked in for next week under warranty.

I had this happening, even on a bright, sunny day. I went into settings and turned off the function for the wipers to automatically wipe when it rained and it's been OK since.

Bugs hitting the sensor?

I spoke too soon! We had a little rain last night and when I used the car this morning in the dry, it was wiping a dry screen again. It can't be bugs hitting the sensor as it was happening whilst I was reversing.

Why is it still doing this if I turned off the wipers automatically working when it rains function and the wipers weren't switched on?

Mine seems to be getting worse and more regularly wiping without being on auto.

anyone else found a fix for this?

I've noticed this too. It is intermittent, but it was around this time last year it started happening. I think it's the combination of the sun and light flares on the camera triggering this. Especially evenings and mornings when the sun is low.

Have u scanned the car for codes yet?

If the wiper stalk is in the off position - there should b no reason at all for it to wipe, regardless of any sensors.

The wiper was always in the off position for me.

Sounds more like a faulty wiper stalk going by the symptoms.

Interestingly, I saw a YouTube short about this on a Skoda Rapid. Seemed to suggest it is the stalk and the connectors within it. A quick squirt of contact cleaner resolved the issue, at least in the short term.

If it keeps happening, i will give it a try, although I'm still under approved used warranty, soI may ask them to check it out
