Anyone driven a Focus ST?

Featured Replies

Thinking about getting one as a next car through work, so I'd just have to pay for fuel and a monthly rate (which is very cheap for the car).

I've seen some reviews which reckon the ASBO does about 25mpg  average, the book figure is 30 though. 25mpg would be a bit steep but I could cope with 30mpg or even high twenties. Has anyone actually driven one (assuming they've got a computer) or even has one to which they could add any real evidence to this please?

Got a test drive lined up but it's probably not ideal for testing the economy.;)

Anything with that sort of performance is going to return that sort of mpg and you'll probably need to run it on super unleaded too :D

It is worth it though, imho ;):D

Super unleaded . . ouch. :( I am very tempted though, it came out the same monthly rate as an Octavia 2.0TDi Sport!!

Other options are a Mini Cooper S which is a good deal cheaper but practically useless for carrying anything other than the girlfriend.

Super unleaded . . ouch.

I use Optimax (98 octane) on my fabia and she runs much better - especially in the higher revs.

Its all good really because on a trip from chinnor to banbury (about 25 miles through towns and b roads) I averaged 46.4 MPG :D

25 MPG , you are having a laugh aren't you , you will deffo struggle to get that if you use any of the performance that is available ,a mate was struggling to get into the 20s when running in , even though people on the ST forum say that they are getting over 30 mpg , it is a pretty quick car 140+mph though but wasn't a match for my mates chipped Leon CupraR , does handle well though , only been in the back of one not driven it , i think the best spec to get is ST2 , the leathers a bit slippy in the ST3 , oh yeah almost forgot it sounds great especially when it pops back .

Someone else other than me tell him to buy this beast in orange... he won't listen to me..... :D :P

Rememeber I'm a granny driver most of the time, but when I feel like it . . . :D

One of the terms of the contract is no modifications. :( It's gotta be good as standard! If remaps etc. were allowed, I'd probs get a Furby vRS . . . but they're not.

Has to be the orange!!

The silver trim around the fogs and tail lights looks tacky against the blue and black.

Another vote for Orange! It's the colour people will remember in the future, any other colour and it'll look just like another Focus... ORANGE

lambo orange is nice but from my mates experience it seems to chip very easily , and his is modded already 19"s , milltek , bigger FMIC , K+N , and small spoiler below the rear screen:eek: nice :D

The whole car is tacky if you ask me. Wobbly interior too. Not driven one, I thought there was no point, as I couldn't live with it on looks alone. Oh, and the raised boot floor makes the boot useless.

I'll see what the test drive yields. Orange paint is a £700 option.

Have a mate who works for a Ford main dealer and drove one before getting our Octy!

Super to drive, BUT fuel consumption is worse than vRS (remember its basically the Volvo T5 lump) I get about 31mpg as a work average and 38 on good runs in the vRS, when I test drove the ST I got an average of 24mpg & didn't get to open it up as much as I do the vRS! No way I could justify that in a work car!! The other issue I had was with the rear diff you loose a fair bit of boot space! However it was fun to drive!!:D Just wasn't as convinced about sinking my own money into it!

Orange ones tend to be factory orders and acording to my mate take about 3 months at the moment (if all you want is the colour) if you wantt an ST3 in orange expect longer! my mate seems to think that the Orange will be a limited production colour and that they age likely to do a sort of "hot wheels bright metalic green as well".

Of course there is often a lot of this kind of talk, but nothing comes of it!:P

wasn't that orange meant to be limited to something like 1000 cars? The ST does look tacky, when you're comparing it to the blandness that is any standard vRS - but it's going to be hard to argue with the running costs when using either car as a daily driver

rear diff...

rear diff...

Yeah, I was under the impression it was FWD only.

I've tried the Octy vRS and it comes out at nearly

test drive magazine are running a focus st at the moment and only getting 20 mpg.

derek

Got to be a white one!!!!

Saw one in white at the Classic Le Mans weekend just gone(7th-9th July)and it looked stunning.

Made me want one even more, but i haven't seen the Mk2 Octy vRS in White yet.

the Octy is probably cheaper to service

Youre having a laugh arnt you? Ford are the cheapest by far. I find Skoda more expensive than most. Still wouldnt buy a Ford though!!

DoH! There you go, brain on one thing fingers typing another. Sorry for the confusion!!!! Just really a comment on how limited the boot space is, seemed smaller than a basic Focus, but guess that could be the case if using a full size spare?

However I am intrested in the fact that the ST works out better as a company car (worse mpg & emissions)! Would have thought this would hit hard in tax!

Ho hum!!

I was looking into buying a Focus ST.

The main thing that put me off was the running costs. Spent alot of time on Focus forums and most said they were getting 18-19mpg!

Too expensive for me as a second car, I bought the Fiesta ST:thumbup:

I drove one during my recent test drive marathon and it was really very good indeed. Felt a lot more like a driver's car than either the Astra or Golf though the power delivery isnt quite as brutal feeling as the Astra.

Looks reasonably annonymous though which, I like.

In danger of becoming the new "Impreza" though because all of the scroats will want one. They'll become more common than ch*vs at McDonalds and you'll see one everywhere you go.

Someone posted a pic on here. Will try and find it.

If MPG etc is a worry how about the performance Mondeo diesel? Oops,I think it is about

Here they come...

I drove one and was thoroughly underwhelmed.

I didn't thrash it but drove briskly-off the limit it is completely dull to drive. Just like a normal Focus but faster IMHO. The interior is pretty drab too and the seating position I found pretty poor - didn't seem to adjust how I wanted it despite the normal Focus being ok in that respect.

On a track I'm sure it would be a different matter but as someone who drives normally on the road it's a car I'd have not much fun in.

I'm a big fan of the Astra vXR and would have one over an ST regardless of what all the journos think.

think you can even spec a full sized alloy as a spare, must have no boot space at all
