Touchscreen infotainment running v1941

Randomly just turns up the volume, sometimes in steps, sometimes just all the way!

Only see the volume graphic on the touch screen, not the dashboard display.

Have tried a re-boot and a restore to factory settings but neither have had any effect

I’m going to guess this is part and parcel of the infotainment bugs I’ve been reading about.

However has anyone else had this and was it an easy fix?

Its got a warranty so is booked into a garage for assessment, but they tell me a software update won’t be covered.

Anyone had similar, and any useful advice??!!

Ta

Martyn

They will install new screen. Good you have warranty.

Is it the screen though (I appreciate you actually haven’t seen it!!!)

My feeling was it was the touch bar.. or is it all one unit??!

Can i force an OTA update or is that a dealer only type thing…

I’ve seen the thread on here about manually downloading the software but don’t really want to go down that route..!!

Yes it is one unit. It overheats due to some design flaw and sooner or later starts behaving as you described. No SW update would fix that. You'll find quite a few of us here who went through screen replacement.

thank you..

really appreciate your comments.!

I shall let the garage know.. maybe I can persuade them to just sign off a new screen!!

I'll return when I know what's going to happen.

On my skoda i attached also videos and they immediatly ordered new screen and replace it under warranty. No OTA or any other update will solve this issue, because its problem with hardware unit

Could you elaborate what does it mean and how it is done?

I assumed Vran22 meant they took a video of the infotainment doing its thing…

Mine, well having played up on a very long drive from near Manchester to the moray coast in Scotland, and also played up when there, i read this and I primed the wife to record it on the way home..

Faultless.

Didn’t do the volume up once

Also didn’t do it in the following few days.

I have a works vehicle this week, so not using mine.

I have a nasty feeling when i take it in for assessment next week they won’t find a fault, and i don’t have proof…

I’d really like to get a video!

Lets see..!!!

Yes i took video of infotainment doing thoose..

So i had recorded issue of:

  • Car beeing locked and radio was playing

  • Infotainment doing black screen or shut off and turn on

  • Infotainment sound going to max

Ok, I misunderstood you thinking you attached videos via myskoda app somehow. That would be a cool feature for them to add.

Mine (MY 21) started to do something similar last summer (December here) and is no longer doing it now we are in autumn, so it may be heat related.

Back then I had many cases of sound volume going to very low – ALMOST inaudible. Adjusting the volume on the slider or on the wheel was ineffective in returning normal volume. The display showed 100% but the audible level was like 10%. A reboot of the infotainment system worked but it is slow and cumbersome. The problem could occur many times daily.

Then I found a workaround: A quick fix was to press on the little volume scroll wheel on the left of steering wheel to mute and again to unmute. The volume then returned to normal.

It is going in for its annual service in a few weeks, still under its 7 year warranty. I will mention this problem. Perhaps they will recognize it as a sign that the whole unit needs replacing.

Would it be worth updating the Infotainment before having it replaced to see if that sorts out the issue?????

it was suggested further up thread that it was a hardware issue and no update would sort it out..

as well as the warranty company telling me a software update isn't covered, so for me it would be better to get it replaced as that is covered.

getting checked Wednesday but I now don't have any proof of an issue, and its just not going wrong...!!!

Yeah, better to record video evidence when it happens. Park it outside under the sun for a day and it may trigger the issue.

I have a ‘70 Octavia mk4. Owned for nearly 4 yrs. During that time I have experienced endless problems with the infotainment system, particularly in hot weather: radio switching on randomly with increasing volume, random alarm and hazard lights coming on, screen randomly scrolling through different pages, and system unable to be switched off. All this is sometimes accompanied by cracking sounds like a stone thrown up at the windscreen.

No Skoda dealer has so far managed to provide a permanent fix. Any and all software updates have ultimately failed.

Last week I had to abandon the car after it was packed for a holiday. The automatic brake wouldn’t release and the radio came on randomly. I couldn’t even start the car or get the engine to turn over. Whilst on holiday I had a neighbour call me to say the alarm had come on. Happily it did turn itself off later. When I got home I couldn’t get into the car as the battery seemed to have died.

Next week it’s booked in to Skoda’s for yet another diagnostic but I have no faith that any new software updates will cure the problem. As the car is on an extended warranty I’m pushing for a screen change and/or the screen’s computer drive unit. Frankly I’ve had enough.

It lives outside, and was in a multi story all last week when it was really warm..!

Chubbs.. thats a crappy situation, i wonder if you need a new battery?? Modern stuff seems to do weird stuff when the voltage gets low…

Interesting that you have to push for it. In all related TPIs that I've seen it is just a standard way of fixing these problems - SW updates or coding, then unit replacement, then repeat if did not help. I had my infotainment changed twice before Skoda rolled out 1941 update. Like, everybody understood it won't help, but that's what Skoda mandated to do anyway.
Though I would mention that it helps staying with one particular workshop, so you don't have to start the process from the beginning in a next workshop which did not touch the car yet.

I was thinking that I had been lucky only having a couple of trips last year with endless infotainment reboots and oddities and nothing since the dealer updated it to 1941. However, the infotainment unit in the car (2021 PHEV) has just started turning itself on when the car is locked. The car alarm went off earlier, numerous warning messages on the dash, and I found that the 12v battery was down to 5v. I am currently charging the 12V battery again and I will try and get a video of the infotainment unit turning itself on before the car goes to the dealer for an oil service next week.

The warranty on the car has run out now, so I will have fun arguing with the dealer if the infotainment unit needs replacing. If it is known fault in the infotainment unit then I would hope that Skoda would cover at least some of the cost, but I suspect that they won't agree!

I thought that the 12V battery was supposed to charge when the car was plugged in, but since the HV battery was at 85% and it travel planner only charges to 80% during the week it appears not to have done so. It is a bit of a flaw if it will allow the 12V battery to go flat even if there is plenty of juice in the HV one or it is plugged in.

Indeed, that doesn't make sense. It is charging 12V battery only in the process of charging HV battery. So when my infotainment was switching on at night, my car was fully charged by 6am, and when I was coming at 9am, 12V battery was already dead. 3 hours was enough to drain it.
But then again, for some reasons beyond my comprehension, this is a common issue across EVs.

Update....

I phoned the warranty garage the day before it was due to go in and explained it had behaved for the best part of 3 weeks.

I was told if there was nothing to see, there was nothing they can do, so booking cancelled.

3 days later it started playing up again so this time I got video proof and re-booked it in.

Despite booking through my warranty company app (assurant, part of RAC) there seemed to be a bit of a battle to get the garage to understand this was a warranty claim, not a paid for job. Weirdly they weren't interested in the videos until I pushed the point. The screen has been ok for the last few days so there was a chance they wouldn't see the fault.

Anyway the upshot is the screen has been removed for an assessment, and the work is being put through as a warranty claim.

I wasn't sure about using the car without the screen connected, modern stuff can be weird if something isn't plugged in but it drives fine, I can move through radio pre-sets. Can't change the temperature though, but its not the end of the world.

lets see what happens when it comes back!

I had the problem the other day where the infotainment system wouldn't shutdown when I turned the ignition off, the display froze as well.

I only got control back after a reset and it only seemed to do that begrudgingly too, it was a real struggle to get it to reset. It has been fine for the last couple of days.

Genuine question - WTF? Mind making a picture of how your car looks like now?
I mean, there is nothing to inspect really, it is a very common issue. They must have ordered a new screen and replace it on spot, not letting you drive around like that...

  • Author

I will take a photo tomorrow

My understanding is the screen is to be repaired..

I expected to demonstrate the fault and get a screen ordered, that doesn’t appear to be the case.

I’m not naming any garages yet but I’m not happy, however this is the system (as presented) so I have to go with it.

I’m being to think the (after market) warranty, despite being from a reputable company may be a bit crap…..

Let me see how this plays out…..

Edit… rhe screen has been sent for repair not replacement…

There you go… Octavia with no screen..

I’m chasing the garage tomorrow for an update…

Not sure i'd have let them take the unit out and then expect the car to still be used..... How are you supposed to turn any of the safety systems on/off?
