Edit Sound settings - dataset export (OBDeleven, Car Scanner Pro?)

Featured Replies

This is interesting @petrbazant - I spent ages either VCTool, different ELM adapters, DoIP etc trying to get the dataset import export to work on a 2024 (pre FL) Octavia 4. Did you end up having to do anything specific that made it work? I didn’t think it was possible.

Are the VCTool parameters the same as datasets? Have you had any luck with the datasets themselves or just the parameters? Hoping to find a flat dataset. Does the tool indicate which dataset is currently active?

I can confirm that VCtool works well with Octavia NX and DOIP cable (aliexpress 10€).

VCTool seems very powerful if you pay for subscription, but even without that you can scan and clear DTC error codes, you can make backup (I don't know if you can restore backup if you mess something without subscription), and you have 1click apps. Maybe you can do also some another things.

I haven't tried yet changing sound parameters.

1st option is "stock", can somebody confirm this option works?

Helo,

I got reply from VCtools support about "stock" setting:

"

The “Stock” option attempts to find backups of your vehicle in the database and, if they contain a saved sound dataset, restores it from the selected backup. If no backup is found or the dataset is missing, it will load the standard default dataset for your vehicle (which may differ from the one originally installed).

On the MQBevo platform, datasets cannot always be read, so their presence in a backup is not guaranteed.

In any case, to restore any factory parameters, you can use the Stock Service — this service allows you to request factory datasets and calibrations for a specific vehicle directly from the VAG factory server. The service is paid and not included in any subscription. Please make sure to review the service terms before using it.

"

Is there an option to do a module backup with VC Tools - then switch back to the backup if the other presets are not good?

Hmm its odd that they allow you to write an arbitrary set of 10, but don't say what they mean / do. Is it possible to pull any of these down, and use the MIB sound dataset editor on them? It all feels a bit too undefined for me to try and push one in the hope that it works. It sure as anything wouldn't read the dataset for me from my 2024 Octavia, so I'd be really hesitant to have it try and write.

Hi, just a short update.

I decided and tried some of the pressets (options) in VCtool.

I first tried option 14 like @petrbazant suggested: back speakers started working, signal is same or similar to front speakers, there is no obvious low and high cut frequency but complete sound is much worse than stock option, there is a lot of cancelling frequencies from driver point of hearing. Also I lost option of sound focus (driver seat, front seats or all) in sound settings, I just have fade (front right) and balance. When tryed to apply stock option it says: Dataset upload error: Request out of range....

I will try and play with some other options, hoping they will sound better.

If someone know how to restore Octavia 4 stock settings please let me know

Good on you for trying - this is my worry, that it all seems to be a bit of a black box! Do any of the other presets work?

Interesting that you’re getting a lot of cancelling frequencies.

I’ve got my HU going into an ATF Match M5.4, which I can do a raw out into the RCAs. If I have a moment, and can psych myself up to running the VCTool presets on it (really worried about not getting it back to something workable, but if something is flat that’s fine…) I’ll do a REW analyser export of a handful of them.

If there are any specific ones people are looking to try (beyond 14) let me know.

Maybe I panicked a little too quickly. Later I sat in the car in peace and decided to try the other options, starting from the last (Option 22) to the first. Most of these options seem really better than the other. You can definitely hear the difference from one to the other. Most of these options have much better rear speakers than the factory setting

.

I tried options from 22 to 12 and I would say that only options 14, 20 and 21 are worse than the factory.

None of these settings in VCtool give back the "Sound focus" setting option, but since I am satisfied with the sound of certain options, I don't really miss it. As far as I understand, "Sound focus" only gives a different "delay" to the speakers depending on setting but so far I have been most satisfied with the "All" option even on the stock option.

My plan is to try all the remaining options, but the problem now is how to decide which one to stick with?

Hi just wondering if anyone has had any luck using VCTool to amend audio parameters on a MIB1 Amundsen ZR_StdNav_MOST_DAB. And which USB/OBD adapter is everyone using?

I have installed the Focal ISVW65 speakers in all 4 doors with 2x Pioneer GM-D1004 amps (1 for front speakers and 1 for rear, both running in bridged mode), and they just sound like they are missing something... Wanted to see what I could do with the factory unit before I blow £400 on a Helix DSP.

Thanks

After reading this and similar forums about my Octavia 4 (2022. 1.5TSI), and thanks to some enthusiasts here I decided to do deadening doors, trunk, hood, wheel arches, pillars... and speaker upgrade (Focal IS VW 165 front + rear). I will post some pictures after about this. I'm super satisfied with results, but now realizing even more possible improvements.

Sound of front and rear speakers is completely different. Rears are - just bad, completely lacking power and low and high frequencies. This is especially not good at all if you want to install an DSP amplifier, you want to have "flat" outputs from head unit.

After hours of searching I found some interesting web links related to described "problem". The possible solution is to "play" and edit sound settings of MIB unit (see attached links).

In short: via diagnostics "extract" sound dataset from 5F Multimedia Control Unit (HEX code), edit hex code or import to Sound Settings Editor (Alex Strelets, MQB-BLOG), and write back to car.

This was confirmed working with MIB1,2,3 units but I didn't find anyone that succeeded with MIB3 and Octavia IV (NX).

I tried with OBDeleven (EEPROM) and Car Scanner Pro (DATASET DUMP) without success.

I hope that discussion can lead us to some solution....

Some useful links:

If you’re looking for a convenient and vibrant place to live, there are many options available for apartments for rent in Athens Center. This area offers easy access to public transport, local shops, cafes, and cultural landmarks, making it ideal for both students and professionals. Prices can vary depending on size, location, and amenities, so it’s worth exploring multiple listings. Checking online platforms and local agencies can help you find the best deals. Additionally, visiting the neighborhoods in person gives a better sense of the atmosphere and community before making a decision.

The rear speakers in your Octavia 4 sound weak because the MIB3 unit outputs to them differently than the front speakers. While editing the sound dataset (HEX code) from the 5F Multimedia Control Unit can theoretically fix this, it hasn’t been successfully done on Octavia IV MIB3 units yet. Using OBDeleven or Car Scanner Pro to dump the dataset won’t work due to encryption or compatibility issues. The most practical solution right now is to install a high-quality external DSP amplifier, which can balance the front and rear speakers and provide flat outputs without modifying the MIB3 software.

Anybody found solution how read dataset from Octavia 4 NX with MIB3 ? I need it to correct audio to better high tone speaker.

You want the hex Code or the Dataset Number?

I need Hex code

But what you mean write dataset number?

Ok but adresem dataset audio no working on Octavia 4 NX

Hello @pepeEL ,

What is not working/correct in the info that I've provided above?

HEX address?

Bear in mind, that I also don't know how to extract them from the MIB3 unit!

From VcTool:

I can not read this address from MIB3

I tried for quite some time with various tools. I’m not sure it’s possible.

Hello guys,
I am really interested in this topic as I read on different forums that updating the sound datasets will "bring my sound system to life". I don't have ODIS or VCP, I bought myself an ELM327 adapter but I think it's a cheap version as it doesn't have a pic18f25k80 uc and it's showed as a "BAD ELM327" so I did not risk it to do any reading/writing with it.
My main question, I guess, is : for you, who made a successful reading and writing of the dataset, did it really made a big improvement of the stock sound system? Is it worth the work?
I am also thinking to buy a VCP, but I don't know what to buy; you guys have a link?
Thank you!

I have ODIS but i down know how by ODIS read and then write xml with dataset. Anybody can tell me ? If i know how i can try in my friend skoda octavia 4 NX

Hello @trinajstich ,

Can you provide more details:

  1. What option did you finally keep?

  2. Have you managed to restore the Stock option ?

  3. Have you tested with a valid VcTool Pro Subscription active?

Thank you

When you create a backup using the VC Tool, the original sound data set is usually saved.

Hi djmartizan,

I choose to keep option 16 as my default sound dataset. It seemed much better thank stock option...

I haven't managed to restore stock option. Yes, I made a backup of all Control Units before starting anything, but on free VCtool I think is impossible to restore.

OK, i use only ultimate
