Stop start thoughts

I don't know what do you mean by this, but for example, car in front of me is turning to the left (i live in Bosnia which is right side driving coutry) and as i aproach him and stop, shifting gear in neutral, he moves and I have a free way to continue my journey, but start-stop has already kicked off. Or on small stops when i turn to the left and have to allow one car to pass before I turn. Just for example.

I know what you mean and I'm not trying to criticise but in those situations I'd normally be anticipating things such that I don't necessarily have t come to a stop for a second at all, eg by slowing down a bit earlier and keeping rolling. However I accept there will always be situations where that's not possible of course.

Pity that my post about stop start replied to by many people in a very positive informative fashion has been hijacked by personal comments about someone’s driving skills

It’s not what I expected on this forum, but sadly some people just can’t help themselves it seems☹️

Thanks again for all the very helpful responses and maybe it’s time this thread was left

We're you referring to my comment about reading the road? If so I stand by it - as I think it's unusual to have to stop for a second or less and then move off again, as was noted in the post I responded to, and such situations can generally be avoided by thinking ahead and anticipation.

I think comments veering off the subject of my post don’t really help

Thank you

Thank you

As a relative newcomer to the forum you will probably soon come to realise that thread drift is one of the great things about it and that's it's not strictly policed like some where only posts directly related to the subject are allowed...

I've been here over 22 years from memory and it's a great place with a great community and members that are generally open, engaging and helpful with suggestions and comments.

Anyhow, to turn back to the subject, I have no issues with stop start. 👍

Goodbye and your comments will live with me I’m sure

There are just 2 circumstances when I turn off stop/start:

1) when at a junction or roundabout with heavy traffic and only small gaps, so the delay for the engine to restart makes it impossible to safely get into the gap

2) when in a traffic queue that keeps stopping and restarting every few seconds

I use that method, I also tend to forget it's a different scenario for manual drivers. Anyway, I'm glad you got to point it out without being jumped on for trying to teach your forebears about, well, you know.....!
