New Tyres

Featured Replies

I have a 2022 Skoda Kamiq. It came with Goodyear 205/55 R17 91V tyres. I would like to get all season tyres to replace them, but can’t seem to find any with the same load and speed values. Not sure if it matters if I’m replacing all 4. Where can I find out the recommended size, load, speed etc for my vehicle? I’ve looked in the owner’s manual and it doesn’t actually say. I checked the fuel cap and I’ve no idea how to interpret what I see. In fact, it says R18 in the fuel cap, but I’m not sure if that’s the recommended size or not. Can anyone help?

OP, as you are planning on replacing the original tyres at the 3 years mark, then changing over to Michelins is fine as Michelin, at least full winter tyres Alpins, can last a very long time, the Michelin Alpin tyres on my wife's 2015 VW Polo 1.2TSI were first bought new in October 2015 and so were probably manufactured in 2014, 54,000/2 miles later - and I have not removed them yet, and wear wise they should last another 2 or 3 years - garage is always garaged when not being used so no signs of cracking yet, but the compound will have firmed up a bit so not quite so grippy. I hadn't considered their possible lifetime when I bought them, for us, using 2 cars, it would have made more sense to have bought cheaper - ie "lower expected mileage" winter tyres - maybe next time.

So I'd think that the same applies to buying all season tyres.

No shortage of a choice of All Season of the 205/55 R17 95/V

On the filler cap it says "R16, R17 or R18", depending on the wheel size supplied! You have 17 inch wheels!

Thanks all, it’s a bit of a learning curve for me. I’m currently contemplating the Goodyear or Michelin ones. I was just concerned that the difference in load rating could be an issue as I’d read somewhere that you have to stick with the manufacturer’s recommendations as not doing so could invalidate your insurance, but I can’t find the size/ load/ speed limits in my owner’s manual. I suspect it’s only an issue if you were going to go down a load rating though?

All the information you need is on the sidewall of the current tyre.

You can go up a little on load rating and on speed rating if you wish.

Any good tyre place will provide you with the right tyre or you can visit the tyre makers web site. Most of them have a selector where you input make and model and they tell you which tyres work for you. NOTE: you must get the rim size right. Again the info is on the existing tyre or you can measure the rim diameter.

I've always used "Tyre Shopper" when needing new ones, they seem to always have the best prices after researching every option. Definitely recommend a check on there when doing the research on prices.

Prices do fluctuate a lot, for example I got 2 Eagle F1 asymmetric 3 (the ones Kamiq originally come with) for £122 each a few months ago, they're now showing as £156.99 each on tyre shopper. But ATS currently £142 each

There are two parts to the info on fuel cap

The box in top right with the open boot, is the spare, and yours is an 18inch space saver (temporary) size.

The 3 possible wheel sizes (16, 17, 18 inch radius) have pressures for front and rear, for normal, heavily loaded and an eco setting. Eco saves bit of fuel, but might give a slightly harsher ride.
