Wheel nut

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Does anyone have any information on this wheel nut?

Bought this car last week, rookie mistake not checked through to see if everything was there, low and behold... No wheel nut key?!

Any information will be much appreciated

Kind regards Scott

It looks like a standard VAG "locking" nut. If so, any Skoda main stealer should be able to replace the tool for you.

On Ebay there are seller's who can replace for ~£20.00. You just need to send a image and they will match to that.

Life saver on ebay can't remember the seller but if you search for skoda fabia locking wheel nut replacement i'm sure you will find it, I had the same issue with my MK2 fabia and all i had to doo was take a close photo like you have and send it to the seller he then sent me a key/socket and it fitted no problem, the bolt part of this fixing has a number stamped on the inner part which also depickits the required socket but the bolt has to be removed for this but is good if you want a spare key, give him a try it was wotrth the time and money to get the correct part

I remove mine and replaced with standard bolts as I have had on two occasions broken the only key I had when changing wheels Managed to just remove them the first time it happend but second time had to get a garage to weld a nut onto the locking bolt to remove. My local Skoda garage used to keep a range in their workshop but its now part of VW group. Local tyre service hates them as they quite often break. Worth a quick call to see if yor local dealer can help remove them and replace with standard bolts unless you have expensive tyres and alloys I doubt there a theft risk these days.

There are only 8 in the set and most VAG service centres will have them and you can buy one from Vw or Skoda spare parts

Remember that these are Magard items, but bespoke to car manufacturers, you can extend your ebay search beyond Skoda if it helps - ie all VW Group marques that use that wheel bolt size, use the common series of "lock bolts".

I'm sure that Vauxhall and some others also use them, but they seem to have a different system of identifying them, from memory the spare one that I bought for my 2011 S4 is actually a "Vauxhall" one by the lettering/numbering used to identify it.

The spare that I bought for the 2015 VW Polo is a VAG equivalent one by way of its identifying letter/number.

Curious (maybe) fact, the security bolts on my 2011 Audi S4 have the same identifying letter as the security bolts on my wife's 2015 VW Polo - but are obviously from different series as they are completely different!

Bottom line, matching by way of a picture must be the way to go - but it might be helpful to expand your search beyond VAG.

But, unless the OP was lucky enough/flucky to get the same "key code", he'd still be stuck without any way to remove these existing security codes - so the cost of doing that to 4 wheel bolts would need to be factored in.

Im sure a service dept would have a set otherwise how would they get wheels off if cant find it in the car. My Kamiq didnt come with them (Cheapskates) so I bought them myself along with Mudflaps and front floor mats for 1/3 of the price dealer quoted and that included Fedex 6 days to AUS I bought one for my Passat a while ago and spare parts had them in stock Just gave me a set and said try them and come back in for the right one Was not expensive.. If you only tighten the nuts to the recommended 120NM you wont break them

Even getting that done would mean paying 0.5 hour labour, or maybe even 1.0 hour labour if the workshop couldn't work on "parts" of an hour, in official UK VW Group workshops the labour rate can get up to £200+ an hour - location location etc.

I might even have read on the official VW Group workshop manuals that the recommendation is to "crack" the wheel bolts with a breaker bar before spinning them off using a buzz gun, same when refitting them.

Every time I hand my cars in for serious repair work, I replace the locking wheel bolts with normal ones - oh, and when getting tyres repaired/replaced, I always hand in wheels - doing that can save these locking bolts - and more!

Funny rules over there I would go in talk to the service manager and ask nicely if they can check which one i have Wouldnt take 5 mins. Or go to the parts dept and ask them to bring out a full set for you to try.

Over here staff are helpful like that and I havent had any trouble. Only thing is the prices are ridiculous for most parts Eg a 20in mag for a Tiguan is about $800 AU

PS I ALWAYS use a torque wrench to tighten my wheel nuts always have always will. Even take it to a tyre shop and make them use it

Service managers are just that. Not techs or even fitters. There are some lovely people around and so helpful. Often they move on to bigger and better things. VW / Skoda UK are very likely to have Authorised Dealership happy upselling and too busy to just getting vehicles in and serviced and customers happy and returning. More crap badly PDI,d goes out, software updates and warranty or recalls needed rather than running nice Dealerships, workshops and with well trained staff. Those that are good move on.
