Fabia 1.0 MK3 oil level indication

Featured Replies

I can't reset "Check oil level" indication.

Oil was a little low but in the band. Topped it up, still got message.Reset oil service but no help.

I'm guessing first place to start is look at sensor wiring, but where is it ?

Just found out it's on the sump.

Anyone know any wiring checks I can do to check sensor in situ ?

Hi, welcome.

Have you read and followed the information in your car's (paper printed) 'Owner's Manual'?

Have you also got the amber triangle of doom showing?

You could back probe the sensor and check it with a multimeter but I'd do all the easy stuff I can before crawling around under a car, how's the state of charge of you 12V battery, any other warning messages ands/or lights?

If battery state of charge is good (and even if not) I always first consider the easiest, quickest, no cost, (no dirty hands) option I could think of, in this case raise the bonnet on it's stick for a few minutes then drop it shut from a reasonable height so the extremely dumb computer knows the bonnet has been lifted (oil added, even if it wasn't) and shut again to rest light, if oil was still too low (or computer thinks it is) the light will come back on after x-miles.

Otherwise a VW appropriate scan tool with up to date program for your model and (part) year (or VIN) with car and scan tool battery(ies) in reasonable state of charge and see what it has on this (IIRC there's about 600(?)+ data points for the engine area).

HTH.

@AlanKP Was that the checked oil level when at operating temperature after a few minutes stopped on the flat?

Or a cold oil check / dip?

You might not have the correct oil level cold dipped,

and when you get a 'Low Oil Warning' even if you put no oil in the light or message go out after opening the bonnet. for 100 km / 62 miles even, and the oil will still be low.

Sorry, forgot to update this. The next day I went out to check it again and it had fixed itself, so all normal indications...
