Help! no power blown turbo??VRS.

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Yesterday my 55 plate Furby vRS went 'pop' and I found myself struggling to get to 40mph.

The turbo spins but intead of making a 'whistle' it now makes a horrible 'wheezy' sound and ocassionally whitish grey smoke is coming from the rear when the engine has to work hard (presumably due to not having any help from the turbo).

Does this sound like a turbo failure, broken seals or a simple hose popping off?

The engine still starts and it never died, plus at first the engine management warning light came on (though it is now).

Its being looked at tomorrow by Garland Motors, but I though i'd ask to see if anyone had any ideas here first....

Sounds like the turbo hose has come off..... quite common...

Yep would agree with that, although not sure about the whitish smoke - would expect clouds of black smoke....

It didn't smoke too often perhaps its my eyes and it was more greyish than white.

Get into a dealer to check all the pipework a.s.a.p. :)

There's a fair bit of pipework under the car on the driver's side, but you could have a check under the bonnet to see all the hoses are attached up at the inlet manifold end of things. :)

When it happened to mine the dealer replaced the pipes so there was a delay while they waited for the new ones to come in.

I did have a look to see if anything had popped off, but there is so much plastic there isn't much to see!

Its booked in tomorrow, hopefully its nothing too drastic. The same thing happened to my Dad's 530d, so it is quite common....

On a side note service was a little crap from Garland Motors, no courtesy cars avaliable and no pick up avaliable due to 'staffing problems'

Hopefully they will be a little more efficient when it comes to repair...

The car should be supplied by the AA.

If not insist on them hiring you one, they'll soon find you one then.

Get Skoda assist out to look at it, that way if it is off the road they will get you a car.

You pay for it so use it.

Skoda have finally given me an Octavia cour that I pick up tonight.

However the service I was provided with was farcical.

AA explained that they would not provide me with a car because they picked my car up from outside my house: therefore I had not strictly been 'recovered'

I asked the operator what would have happened if I has put the car round the corner from my house and called them on a mobile instead of my house phone.

They replied that I WOULD have got a car.

What is even worse is I MOVED my car from a road near my house to outside the house making it easier for them to pick up-I SHOULD HAVE LEFT IT WHERE IT WAS!

As regards the car; Skoda rang me to inform it was an alternator failure and they have replaced the unit and the car is ready to pick up.

Alternator failure?????? I think not chaps... No power, smoke from the rear, turbo not sounding healthy......alternator trouble???? Come on!

AND...lo and behold they ring me back to say it IS a turbo unit failure and that it won't be ready till after the weekend-hence me having a coutesy Octavia.

Has anyone heard of worse service all round? This is the pits (no pun intended) and not what I expected from Skoda.

Im not standing for this treatment can you guys to whom I should address my complaints to?:thumbdwn:

Im referring to Garland Motors Ltd- the dealer.

I now have a contact number for customer support (presumably for Skoda UK), im going to try that avenue first.
