2020 Skoda Octvia mk4 Transmission oil change suggestion

Featured Replies

Hello Guys,

Just got a new for me Octavia mk4 combi and it has some weird anomalies when it's in 3rd and 4th,

Sometimes it needs a little extra push to get it in gear otherwise it throws it out of speed.

Friends suggested that a transmission oil change could fix the issue but I'm a bit lost as to what type to get.

But I'm at a loss, I heard mixed results with aftermarket OEM oils (Shell, Castol, Liqui moly) and not sure how to proceed.

And I've yet to found any concrete info as of how much oil should be put in.

Also there is a huge price difference between the OEM and the factory oil which makes me a bit hesitant about the whole replacement.

And what is everyone's experience with the transmission after an oil change?

Thank you in advance!

What engine has your Octavia,

& how many miles has it done?

Sorry forgot it in the original post, 70000km on the ODO, and its the 2.0 CR TDI, the 116hp version

I would go with the original oil, but are you sure that the oil change is gonna fix it?

I use Fuchs TITAN FFL – 52529. I have had it in my octavia for a year and everything is fine.

Hi! Just a few questions.

Is the issue better or worse when the car is cold/just started?

Is the issue better or worse when the car has been driven for a 15 minutes or more?

Is the issue better or worse when the weather is cold?

Is the issue better or worse when the weather is warm/hot?

I have a 2020 mk4 Octavia, and when it was new (to me anyway) I experienced issues with 3rd and 4th gear. It never jumped out of gear but I sometimes used to struggle to get it to go in. I persevered with it, being extra careful when shifting to 3rd or 4th, and I found the issue simply went away.

I discovered that for 3 months before me buying the car, it had been parked up. Whether or not that was a contributing factor I'm unsure, all I know is that after now 11 months of ownership I no longer experience the issue and haven't for some time.

Mine is the 1.5 TSI petrol and had 48k on the clock when I bought it, so not entirely sure how relevant this info is to you. Only posting as reading your OP brought it back to me when I was experiencing a similar thing. Perhaps persevere (with care) for a short while, you never know..?
