Built In Sat-Nav.... Can you submit changes?

Featured Replies

I'm sure with the older VAG sat-nav systems there was a way of submitting changes to the maps so that they could be amended in future updates but is this something that can be done with the current built in sat-nav system?

Whenever I set a route from home the built in system wants to use what has for at least the 25 years we've lived here, if not always, been a footpath (in fact it even has a set of steps on it so it's probably always been a footpath since the housing development was built). As soon as i turn right instead of left out of our cul-de-sac the system re-routes and gives the correct route out of the estate (turning left takes you further into the estate but the footpath in question that it thinks is a road and which leads out of the estate is in that direction).

I've had a look at the Traffication options for reports but nothing that is relevant is available so wondered if there was a way to report back that the map needs updating to change what it shows as a normal road is actually just a footpath.

I've attached a couple of photos of each end of the footpath to show you all what the map creators think is actually a road. :D

As far as I know, VW uses map data from “Here Maps.”

At https://mapcreator.here.com you can submit changes.

When Nokia phones disintegrated the map and navigation business was bought by a consortium of car companies including VW. The public offering was relaunched as the free Here maps. Have a look on Here maps to see how your footpath is shown and submit a change request as necessary. This is described above.

Personally I use Here maps on my android phone and find the maps very similar to the Skoda maps.

... and expect to wait several years before the maps are updated.

I submitted a similar change request to Here a few years ago and it took 5 years for the change to appear!

I've signed up and gone to the area in question and it also shows as being a normal road. There is an option to add a new road but nothing to submit a correction saying that what they have as a road has never been one and is just a narrow footpath?

***EDIT***

I think I've done it...... I clicked on that section of what it had as a road and it literally was just the footpath section so I then changed it to a pedestrian walkway and then hit save at the top of the screen and on the map it changed it to a footpath/thin dotted line. Not sure if that then goes through to them as a map update or just stays on the map when I look at it when signed in as me?

Since we’re on the topic, where does the Matrix light get its information from? There are places that are clearly within a town, yet it activates for just a few meters, or it takes a long time after passing a town sign before it deactivates.

I was under the impression it goes on the front camera detecting street lighting at which point it goes to standard dip.... Once street lighting has ended the full matrix lights kick back in again.

That's how mine work anyway.
