Instrument Cluster - seat belt warning light consistently dimly lit

Featured Replies

As above since acquiring my 2003 1.4 Fabia I have noticed that the seat belt warning light is dimly lit on instrument cluster. It's hard to see in the day but at night it's there.

The car doesn't have seat belt warning so it's kind of a redundant light. I have connected VCDS and messed about by setting car into thinking it did have seat belt warning, and warning light comes on as expected and is bright. Setting it back to no, reverts it back to the constant dimly lit seat belt.

'Dim bulb' is often an indicator of an earthing problem somewhere.

I'd be happy to have a look at the circuitboard for you sometime, although I have a bit of an aversion to removing and replacing the needles of the various dials. Whereabouts in Oxon are you?

Try removing dash(with baattery disconnected) Clean dash connector and refit. My Octavia had a few dim lights, ABS,DPF and a few others plus fog light symbol on all the time. I realised it was electrical as no DPF fitted. On refitting cluster after cleaning it cured itself. It may also be a dry joint on cluster or poor earth as Pete said.

Meant Cluster not dash

I tend to agree, just not sure where to start and I'm not great with a soldering iron

So may have made progress. Took cluster out today separated it and sprayed the back with electric cleaner and used cotton buds to clean all the tracks. Lots of black residue on some of the holes on the tracks.

Anyway seems to have sorted it as light is now off. I'm confident it wasn't due to power being off as I had previously removed and reinstalled fuse to no avail.
