Intelligent Octopus Go

Featured Replies

I've posted before about IOG. We don't have a Smart Charger so we've been using IOG with Octopus communicating directly with the car. It worked fine until we went on a lengthy journey when we used public charging. When we got back, IOG seem not to be able to communicate with the car, so every day the charge fails. Seriously thinking about going back to standard Octopus Go and using scheduled charging. Has anyone else had issues?

I assume your location services are set correctly on the car? Have you tried deleting the Elroq from devices in IOG then adding again?

I’ve had no end of issues with IOG and really want it to work, recently the Elroq has become supported by Octopus again and fingers crossed, with the car integration set rather than the charger, things seem to be working better for me 🤞.

If you report to Octopus then at least they are aware of the problem even if they cannot help you in the short term. Hopefully IOG will get better for everyone in the future…

IOG has worked seamlessly for me. I have my charger (Wallbox Pulsar Pro) integrated with IOG and that works dandy.

I’m using the Hypervolt 3 pro with IOG

Every time I plug in it sets the schedule but when the session is due to start it says ev is preventing the charge so I have to unplug the car then insert it again to make it work which is rubbish. Below is what I have just received from Skoda

Thank you for your patience.

Please note that when you use a 3rd party application or system, such as Octopus, it relies on our ŠKODA systems to control the vehicle.

However, our systems are not built for this and frequently cannot withstand the traffic, leading to issues.

This appears to be the cause of the charging issues, which you are experiencing.

To restore functionality, please be so kind and disable Octopus.

You can instead manage your charging in the vehicle's infotainment or the MyŠkoda application.

We trust that you will find this information helpful and wish you a wonderful day

Very poor from Skoda

It’s a known issue. The Elroq goes to sleep and then won’t wake to charge (or resume a charge between slots).

Octopus have recently added the Elroq as a supported device and since I integrated the car rather than the charger I have had no issues. For information I have the same setup as you.

Also it has been reported by many IOG users that Octopus are now not allowing a charger to be the controlling device when you have a car that is compatible (across all manufacturers and not just Škoda). Apparently this is a response to users inflating the charge level requirement as a way of gaming the system…

I agree it’s less than ideal from Škoda and the reply you have posted is very similar to the responses others have received. It requires more investment in their servers and backend systems to cope with the data traffic.

If you are a member of the Škoda EV Lounge on facebook then I would post your question to Škoda there. The more UK customers who complain the more chance of us getting a fix.

I tried the direct car to octopus integration but the vrs is not supported so it was a non starter. I have taken it further with Skoda and now had the following response.

Thank you for your response.

We are sorry to hear that you have not been informed of this during purchase.

We fully understand your disappointment and symphatise with your position.

Please kindly bear with us while we inquire about future Octopus compatibility with the respective department. We will shortly contact you with further information.

Thank you for your understanding and patience in advance.

Will be interesting to hear what they come back to you with…

I would think the Elroq 85 integration would work? It would try it out and see if it works for you, if it doesn’t then you can just delete the integration.

Worst case it will just give you slightly less charge than required? You should still be able to use a scheduled charge while you wait for vRS support from Octopus (or swap to the standard Go tariff in the short term).

Cheers Steve

I'll give the 85 edition a go. To get around the issue what I have been having to do is once the session starts & the car doesn't respond I unplug then reattach the plug and that kicks starts it. But this is not always practical especially when Octopus schedules multiple sessions

I know others have used the same unplug and plug back in method but it’s far from ideal especially if it’s in the early hours or piddling down 🤦‍♂️

I’m sure the vRS will be supported by Octopus 🐙 at some point, maybe worth asking them when this would be? It should be simple for them to use the Elroq 85 configuration and amend the battery capacity…

All I can add is that the Elroq integration is working for me. Hope you manage to solve your issues 🤞

Hi Steve

Thanks for suggestion it worked a treat the 1st time I tried. I also got a really ****ty threatening reply from skoda which I will be taking further.

We hope this email finds you well. See below

Thank you for your inquiry. We would like to kindly inform you that the use of third-party applications or external systems to manage the vehicle’s charging process is not officially supported, unless such applications have been explicitly approved by Škoda Auto.

These systems are not validated for compatibility with the vehicle’s internal charging management and may lead to unexpected behavior, such as communication errors, interruptions in charging, or system faults.

At present, the only third-party application officially approved by Škoda Auto for selected data services is Tronity. The use of any other unapproved applications may compromise system performance and is not allowed.

To ensure reliable and safe operation, only approved Škoda systems — such as the Infotainment interface or the MyŠkoda app — are allowed for use, once the relevant features become available.

Please also note that repeated violations of these usage guidelines may result in restricted access to Škoda Connect services, including the possibility of a temporary or permanent suspension of your account.

Thank you for your understanding.

I have seen similar replies on other forums but as far as I am aware they have not yet taken any action. I believe it’s the traffic to the Škoda servers is the issue. I would assume that once they realise what’s happening they will ban Octopus from doing it?

Glad to hear you managed to get a charge with no issues 😀

Also hear Enyaq users who have a facelift version or have older models updated to software 5.4 are also having the same charging issues (which were charging perfectly with IOG previously).

I wonder if 5.6 which is coming soon will have any fixes for this problem? I have heard that the update is only for bug fixes and no new features.

For information Octopus are now trying to force users into car integration if they have a compatible car (not offering charger integration) when you onboard for the first time. Some existing customers on IOG have had emails informing them they need to re register their vehicles (because they are compatible) to maintain their service and when they do the option to integrate the wall box is lost…

I believe this is a reaction to people gaming the tariff to get extra cheaper slots by overstating the amount of charge required thereby opening up the whole house for cheaper prices during the daytime slots.

I wonder how/what Octopus have found that makes the Elroq integration work as it wasn’t supported initially.

If or when Škoda retaliate and start preventing Octopus users from using the API it would leave owners and Octopus in a bit of a pickle.

I know that BMW had the same issue with server traffic (and blocked Octopus) and that was solved (by BMW I believe)🤷‍♂️

I’m totally confused. When I heard on here I could use IOG for my Elroq I effectively signed up . I have a relatively old BP charge master which as far as I am aware is not smart. I think I got a session to work once but failed so often gave up. Even trying to do instant charging failed as octopus takes over and schedules the charging only for me to wake up to a red light on the charger and no charge in the Elroq. Found a work around by being a GUEST user when I turn on the Elroq and go into private mode . Car then charges on instant charging. Set it off at 10:30 … I am presume I get the 6 hours IOG cheap rate as car needs that time a more to go from 20 to 80…. Is my presumption correct and Any better ideas out there for charging I could try .

Thanks

I've posted before with issues that I had with IOG. I got fed up with jumping in the car only to find that it hadn't charged. In the end I went back to the original Octopus Go. It doesn't need to communicate with the car or the charger. It's about 1p kWh more expensive and 1 hr a night less, but for me it's worth it not to have the hassle.

@skier1066 Hi Scott last time I tried the vrs still wasn't available on IOG so my current set up of the 85 edition and generic charger is working perfectly. I still need to respond to Skodas ****ty email. But charging is all good. Have you tried the same set up

I have found its much better to have the charger controlled by IOG than the car. You do get messages about charging failures/charge finished/charge started in the app as IOG stops and starts charging but it works well. Car is set to immediate charging with limit set to my target (usually 80%) and no locations set in the car. In the IOG app, my device (the charger) is set to give 100% charge by whatever ready time I want.

I just can’t get any consistent charge to work with the hypervolt 3 pro and the Elroq vRs with the charger as the main device . I’ve set up the car as as Elroq 85 24 (I think was the choice ) and see if that goes any better tonight. It’s very frustrating.

Hi whocareswins,

So I deleted the Hypervolt and went to add the car (vRS) and now there is a choice of Elroq 85 24 so that’s the one I went with . Connected the car via the Skoda login. I will try the car tonight with that being the only change.

I didn’t set a home point , did you - apologies for the questions , just trying to mimic your working setup.

Interesting that the Edition no longer seems to be available .

Fingers crossed for tonight !

Hi

The way I set it is as follows

Step 1 make sure there are no schedules set in the car

Step 2 IOG Add device select car (Even though VRS is available you only find out later on that it is not support) choose the 85 edition.

Step 3 select charger ( I have the hypervolt 3 pro) ignore the hypervolt & choose generic. Steve 153 put me on to that one.

Step 4 just set your desired % and time ready. After about 5 - 10 minutes Octopus will create your intillegent schedule, and you should be good to go. Even though you don't select the charger, when you open the app it will show your car charging if it is in one of the IOG charing periods. Hope you get it to work tonight.🤞🙏

Thank you . Steps just taken

  1. Deleted existing device in Octopus app

  2. Deleted octopus app and reinstalled

  3. Added Skoda Elroq 85 24 (no option for Skoda Elroq 85 Edition

  4. Added Generic 7kwh charger

  5. Logged into Skoda and connection made

  6. Octopus app reporting connection made and has created a schedule (like it always did)

Will see how we go tonight as there is one pause in the current schedule but of course that can change.

Would be great if this works !

Keep my fingers crossed. Good luck

Going demented. Came back, plugged the car in. App Not seeing the car as plugged in - removed and reinserted cable - red light - unplugged / replugged in still red.

Reset the Hypervolt charger at the power box.

Plugged in cable to car - Reg again.

Deleted car as a device

Added Hypervolt

Octopus app sees car as plugged in now

Red light on car

Disconnect back to white

Did a 1 minute bump charge all green and can see power going in

stopped bump charge

Octopus app created schedule

Any faith it will happen - not really.

Doubled checked there was no schedules on the car on the charging location and then removed the charging location as well.

If there is anything I am missing please let me know.

Thanks Scott

Sorry Scott

I'm out of ideas. I could only get it to work when I selected the generic charger instead of the hypervolt. Reach out direct to Octopus support. Skoda were about as useful as a chocolate fire guard.

Cheers

Steve

Will do Steve and thanks for all the help and suggestions - it’s a great car - hopefully this is a hiccup.

I’ll call Octopus tomorrow

So I called Octopus , and they suggested linking the car which I did last night, including the 20 min wait before the final connect (Octopus suggestion).

However, as the car was at 80% , I had to reset the charge limit to 100% for the car. I tried using the car and the app, and both times, it just started charging the car immediately. So I stopped that.

The Octopus app is show the Skoda Elroq as connected. The Hypervolt app is no longer showing the Octopus integration but is showing plug and charge. The Octopus app didn't seem to want to create a schedule.

Any thoughts before I call Octopus again ?

Many thanks

Scott
