Hi all just imported my 2024 Octavia 1.4 tsi from Australia to the UK

Featured Replies

just imported my car to the UK, and I'm finding it difficult to get insurance as it's a 1.4 TSI, and insurance companies here don't list this model as a 2024 car. I wondered if anybody has any info on companies that I could try for insurance. I also don't have it registered yet. Any help would be really appreciated

Good morning Jim, welcome to the forum.

Have you tried registering it first?

Is this an Antipodean or North American import?

Try Adrian Flux https://www.adrianflux.co.uk/ or Chris Knott https://www.chrisknott.co.uk/
Mention you found them on Briskoda as they're site sponsors so hopefully they can help you out thumbup

Ah, I see from your profile you were in WA. Welcome back, you're going to find the temperature a bit of a shock.

I am trying to register it at the moment, but I have to get an IVA test done, and the test centre is 60 miles from my home. The testing centre tells me it's not possible to have the car there overnight, and arranging a tow for a specific time is not easy, so I just thought I would try to insure it and drive it as I need to get insurance anyway. I think you are correct, I might have to get registration first

Try Compare the Market or quotesearcher.co.uk for insurance alternatives.

thanks, I have a month before the IVA test, so I will keep looking into it. I am going to have to phone around, as every online company asks for a registration number

The online forms often have a 'checkbox' for imported vehicles - this might get you past the rego issue.

An info dump that may help:

From Mr Google's AI but makes sense on read through. Note use of chassis number for insurance.

"Yes, you are permitted to drive an unregistered vehicle to and from a pre-booked Individual Vehicle Approval (IVA) test, provided the vehicle is insured for the journey and you carry proof of the appointment. You don't need a MOT for this journey, but the vehicle must only be used for this purpose and for any necessary trips to a garage for remedial work following a failed test.

What you need to do:

  1. Get insurance:

Ensure you have specific insurance cover for the journey to and from the IVA test centre, which can often be arranged using the vehicle's chassis number.

  2. Book the IVA test:

You must have a pre-booked IVA test appointment.

  3. Keep proof of the appointment:

Carry a copy of your test appointment with you in case you are stopped by the police.

  4. Travel directly to and from the test:

The legal permission to drive the unregistered vehicle only extends to the journey to the test center and back to your home, or directly to a garage for repairs after a failure.

  5. No MOT required for the journey:

You do not need a valid MOT certificate for this specific journey to the IVA test.

Also might be worth a butcher's at kit car fora as builders will have to deal with similar circumstances.

My first thought on reading the topic title was 'it (the car) won't like the weather' ....... Lol.

I got an invite to Viveash WA by a customer of mine about ten years ago.

Regretting not going ???? ...... maybe.

The last couple of years, the weather in WA has been getting unbearable it is getting too hot over there got a taste of the cold when we came back, and I do admit it was a shock to the system

I was over there in July visiting eldest sister, great for winter!

Yeah, winter and spring are amazing times to be there I do miss it

Quite interesting that North America and other markets retained the 1.4TSI instead of adopting the 1.5.

- Also using the Aisin TC box instead of DSG in Canada and the States.

I have often wondered why the 1.5TSI did not increase output from the 1.4 when it was introduced, I would have expected at least a 10 to 15PS increase with the higher CC.

I purchased this model in Australia because I wanted a brand-new car, but I didn't want the 1.5 didn't realise it was going to be an issue here .

It shouldn't be a real problem getting it registered or insured - there must be allowances in the system for imported vehicles.

Probably get head-shot here, but I think the 1.4TSI non-ACT is the better engine.

You might be best approaching a specialist broker dealing with imported vehicles?

YOU would think so, but they want to hold you to ransom. I insured a 1.9 DSi Megane to use till I got my Octavia sorted out, and one of the companies that was recommended to me wanted to charge me 4500 a year

That's with 40 Years of driving

Welcome (back) to 'Rip off Britain'........ biggrin

The 2024 1.4 TSI be it ACT or not is not WLTP certificated for Europe / EU / UK.

As simple as that. Type Approval might be OK, and the C of C.

That is why not for sale new in Europe /. EU / UK with a Manual / DSG or 8 speed automatic as in other worlds regions.

So not meeting the emissions requirement and needing the jumping through hoops.

Why there is for sale in the EU / Europe / UK there are Mild Hybrids, PHEV,s or 1.5 TSI ACTs.

Surely isn't that only because it hasn't been submitted for certification - not because it doesn't actually meet current emissions.

Why would a 2024, 1.4TSI not still be at least compliant with Euro 6?

Correct. (So submit for Certification if you have Billions of $,s or just have whoever do what needs doing to Import and Register in the UK.

World Wide Harmonised Testing, not done, no certificate. So OK for world wide countries not in Europe / EU / UK.

If a 1.4 TSI was compliant in 2018 on without electrification then they could be sold by SEAT, Skoda, Audi and VW in Europe / EU / UK and not just the last run out models that they did sell like 1.4 TSI Alhambra and a few others possibly.

They need not bothered botching up 1.5 TSI ACT,s just to get certification, even making the issue with Kangerooing.

Even e-Golf 1.4 TSI & Audi e-A3 were discontinued pre WLTP because they needed cheating to get Certification.

The car is Euro six compliant and is compliant with all specifications of the UK models
