Front light lens replacement

Featured Replies

I hit a bollard today in the supermarket. The lens cracked. A non dealer garage told me the complete lamp unit needs to be replaced and not just the lens. Does this sound right to the group? Any advice appreciated

Headlight assembly ?????

Not particularly familiar with the fabia but yes, headlight housings are usually pretty well sealed.

So yes, sounds reasonable assessment to me....

Yes, quite normal.

Get the beam direction checked after a new unit is fitted.

Fabia III's can have different lens types.

Do you have the Projector or the Reflector type unit?

Thanks. AG Falco

That's a projector type unit.

You would be better going to a breaker. Cant see a new one from a dealer being cheap. Looked into replacing front plastic lenses on my sons MK1 but couldnt find a supplier plus they are glued on. Think there are aftermarket ones available but they may look slightly different? Watch autodoc etc as they will be LHD units.

If it's only cracked personally I'd not worry about it, it doesn't look like it'll affect any light - but by the look of the condition of the lens and car your car might be cherished to you.

The rear (incandescent) lights unit aren't cheap so I'd imagine the front to be an arm and a leg and a second arm for projector (plus other pain) for type of light.

I've bought an aftermarket rear light unit (twice) for my wife's 2015 Fabia and the quality of those wasn't as good as a genuine VWŠkoda original but they were less than half the price brand new, although the second one was lower quiality than the first they were both the same make.

I own a 2016 Fabia 1.2TSI SE L with the same headlight and discovered a hairline crack from top to bottom after investigating the source of excessive condensation inside the unit. Mammoth clear weatherproof tape stopped the leak and the car passed an MOT without any comment on that temporaryrepair.

I am about to sell the Fabia and decided to replace the headlight before doing so. The part number is as above - 6V2.941.016.B - and is made by Hella. I have the old unit and can confirm that lens is not replaceable separately. I had the replacement done by an Independent VAG specialist. The part was sourced from TPS and cost £382 while labour including headlight realignment was £96.

Added source of part.

Hi all. Thanks for feedback. To close this off just a note to say that a local garage sourced an after market unit and replaced. To my untrained eye i cant tell the difference to the other one. Cost all in was €500. Over half the cost quoted by the main dealer. Happy to have it sorted before the rain came!
