Red light for coolant level and temperature

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a problem with coolant temperature light. When the weather started getting a little colder, the red light for coolant level and temperature came on every morning. When the car warmed up a little, the light didn't come on anymore. In the afternoon, when it is a little warmer, the light didn't come on either.

There is enough coolant. The temperature gauge also works properly. In short, nothing seems wrong.

Which sensor is bad? I connected it to the computer and it doesn't give me any errors.

Thank you.

Yet again!!

On a cold engine, open the expansion tank and look for 2 metallic prongs descending into the coolant.

Using a broad bladed straight screwdriver, crape the visible side of them 2 or 3 times. This should clear the false positive for a year or 3.

My octavia is the same. I bought a new aftermarket expansion tank for around £15 . Never got round to changing it as the scrape on the prongs worked.

Hi,

Apologize for late replay. I opened the expansion tank and looked for 2 metallic prongs descending into the coolant but could not find them. Please find below attached pictures. Do we speak about the same expansion tank?

I bought this expansion tank 2 years ago because my old one was very dirty and I could not see the level of coolant. I regret now that I replaced it. I have now nice looking expansion tank which is not working. I still could have dirty but working one.

Thanks.

Mk1 Fabia tanks don't have visible/accessible prongs.

You may have a cracked solder joints where the wires meet the instrument cluster, via a green 32-way connector.

Or maybe just try a genuine replacement tank (not cheap though).
