2.0tdi Jerky When Cold

Featured Replies

There is no benefit in idling. Get the glass clear inside and out and on your way. If you have a Gulf Filling station that sells their Super Diesel i would fill up. & give the car a good roasting once at operating temp. There is quite a detergent package in there diesel. Change the fuel filter if not done. ?When was the Air Filter last looked at or replaced?

I think little idling is allways good. Its not healthy for cold engine to rev.

In here Finland we say one cold start will be same that 500 miles driving. But at freeze it will stand out more than + temps.

What kind of cleaner you will get?

I dont have problems but fuel filter change is soon so i thinked also some cleaner to filter.

I found old conversation where conclusion was that 90% of products are just paraffin (that is used for lamps) and few percent some color or something. Only few got another incredients.

I looked safety data sheets today and still same. 90-95% of all products and if we look one product byself it has 90-95% paraffin.

But maybe home made just pure paraffin or some two stroke oil mixed it is risky for these newer diesels who know.

Little idling while moving is good, sitting with an engine running might well be a different thing in Finland than in Ireland.

Finally got around to this over Christmas. I changed oil and filter as it needs service anyway, fuel filter, and ran a can of diesel purge through the injection system bypassing the full system.

So far it's been running great.

The coolant temp probe may have gone out of calibration. Won’t fault unless it dies.

Hey, JustAFlabbyPanda, how have you been getting on since you fixed it? I have a 2015 2 litre Diesel Yeti. Exact same problem. Needed a new clutch kit anyway but dealer said that would solve it - and it didn't. Second mechanic saw faults in the EGR valve - slow flow or something - but in fairness to him, he said he was not sure. We replaced the EGR valve (as another mehcanic told me it was definitely the EGR valve). But I still have the same problem! Jerky on cold days. My problem is that every morning I have three to four adults with me in the car and with that weight, the car is very jerky for the first 6 or 7 minutes. I have to accelerate extremely slowly so that it doesn't jerk. YOu might let me know what exactly you did and how it's farign right now. I have 254,000km on the clock and apart from that jerkiness, it is perfect...

Thanks

Hi Barry,

Yes I managed to fix my issue by changing the fuel pressure regulator and the fuel rail sensor. I bought two used ones from a local scrap yard. Just pull the fuel rail replace the sensors that each end and it's sored the issue. Just be careful when fitting them as they can be quite brittle, I actually broke plastic attachment on the first one that I tried.

Nope, no codes. Starts first turn of the key with no hesitation so its not like a worn or aging glow plug. Idles fine (no stuttering). Its just when pulling away in first, to second (this is the worst), then to 3rd, by the time I'm in 4th its fine. And then its gone entirely when running for a few minutes.

Clean air filter

Checked fuel filter has been drained/changed?

Checked and if needed fitted a new (genuine) MAF?

Great. Thanks for the quick reply. I will run this by the mechanic who did the EGR valve.... I don't have the skills nor tools...
