Broken infotainment system

Featured Replies

Hi. We own a 2017 Octavia Estate. A few months ago our infotainment system stopped working. It doesn't switch on, so we have no radio or bluetooth, we can't change the time on the clock and we don't have any visual reversing aids (we can though hear the beeps). Our local garage said they couldn't fix it. We took it to our local Skoda garage. Their diagnosis was that there is an internal electrical fault and we require a new unit which can only be obtained from Skoda. We ordered a (very expensive) new unit through that garage a couple of months ago but we have repeatedly been told that it is on back order and they have no idea when they will receive it. Any suggestions about what we can do would be much appreciated. Thanks!

My inclination would be to take the car to a specialist in-car-entertainment retailer/installer and get them to take a look at it. Might be something as simple as an internal fuse.....

Or ask our in-house expert @pab567

Have you tried doing a hard reset by pushing in the power button for five seconds or so and see if it turns on?

@MathewJEH I sent you PM with request to share VIN so I can check details of your system.

Hi @pab567 I have the same issue on a 2016 Skoda Fabia (mk3) with the glovebox unit being faulty. Is this something you'd be able to help with please? Have tried PMing you but i'm too new to Briskoda to use that functionality. Any help would be awesome

Just to update in case of interest, @pab567 very helpfully resolved this issue by sending me a replacement glove box unit which I have installed and works.

@MathewJEH thx for info, I do appreciate it.

Hey everyone,

I have also a problem with my glovebox unit, mine is Columbus 565035021B.

For some reason, it goes in reboot cycle almost every time after the engine start. But if I firstly switch on the multimedia screen, wait for 10-15 sec and then start an engine - multimedia unit works without any issues.

Is there any tweak how to make the glovebox unit work properly or it should be replaced/repaired?
@pab567 I would appreciate any piece of advice.

Thanks in advance!

I guess so, I have the one without any physical buttons, only sensor ones on the left side (+Canton).

Is this possible to do the firmware update by myself or it is needed to be executed by official dealer?

Note: It is worthwhile to add that my car model is Kodiaq 2018, but I think, the multimedia units are common with Octavia.

IYou can generally perform the update yourself. A charger and diagnostic software are highly recommended.

@KDQ I have just sent you link to MHI2_ER_SKG13_P4526 (1440) in PM. But reading your description I beleive this coudl also be battery issue - voltage might be going too low when starter is running.

Thanks @pab567 . I assume this is less likely, because I installed a new AGM battery 4 months ago. I read on some german forum, that one person had the same issue, and he was offered to replace the glovebox unit by official dealer. And after he made this - the problem was solved. So, I was wondering whether it is a known problem with such kind of units and the solution is already known.

Problem new to me, try to run the firmware upgrade in Manual SWDL mode with "Select all" marked

Hi, just adding onto this thread if anyone can advise. I have a similar issue which has been getting worse. Infotainment would come on when start car but no phone / no Bluetooth / no parking sensor display / no steering wheel controls (volume) for 10mins then everything worked. The buttons on the infotainment were also not illuminated (physical buttons) for them 10mins but came on when everything worked. Radio worked regardless with display. This has now gotten worse where the infotainment system does not come on when start car so have to manually turn it on and still same issue as above, and manually turn it off after turning car off.

Would this be software update issue?....am hoping so. How do you update them?
