Intelligent IC mister install - injector help?

Featured Replies

Any updates in this Basil?

Yep- installed. It works pretty well. Heat soak at 45 degree temps can be controlled.

Nogo on using diesel injector signal. I've got it running on semi-auto. I have a box with both a momentary switch and an on-off switch. 4.5l of water lasts me 3-4 days of regular spirited driving - lasted only 1 hour of brother-in-law driving tho'.

Just be warned, autospeed's customer service is absolute SH!T:finger: ! Be prepared to have a lot of patience......

No help on "techincal support" until I threatened to email the manager. Even then a dry form reply saying my request for info had been sent on. 3 weeks ago. Whoever Meegan is, she must be related (ahem) to the owner/boss.......

I ordered a voltage threshold switch to use throttle position as the trigger from same source 3 weeks ago - no update, no reply to confirm shipping. Autospeed don't have anything that even remotely resembles "customer service".

I'm just waiting till someone in China reverse-engineers their product at 1/5 the price.....

Cheers:thumbup:

Correct me if I'm wrong.

You have it setup to activate when the temp sensor on the intercooler hits 45c? This is regardless of injector duty cylce (as it doesnt work with the diesel injectors).

How long does it activate for?

How about setting it up to work with boost pressure?

Thanks

You set it up for the temperature difference between 2 sensors - one behind IC and other ambient. Adjusted by a trimpot. Ambient temp here is 45 degrees currently!

It activates only when both the temp threshold is exceeded and the duty cycle exceeds a certain amount (or you have that part earthed/shorted with a switch as I have).

If you have it on injector duty cycle, you can adjust how long it stays on, by adjusting the relevant trimpot.

In my temporary setup, I have to monitor it and shut it off if it goes on longer than about 30 secs.

You can run it with a boost switch, but I'm planning to take off the accelerator line or tach to trigger at a certain rpm, using a voltage circuit from the same people.

If I put a simple timer circuit after it triggers, it would work perfectly as well. It takes 5-45 secs of flow to claw the temp back down depending on airflow, etc.

Running only 15 secs and then off, it will get the temps down.

Was thinking. If you have it setup like you do with the duty cylce earth'd but without a switch. Then setup the differences between the 2 sensors to say 20c so it activates when intake temps get to 65c. What would the downside of this setup be? Is it likely it wont be able to drop the temps to below 65c resulting in using all the water?

Sorry for the questions just interested.

Cheers

I havent been that accurate in setting the temps TBH - I just drive it until I felt heatsoak, and then adjusted the temp sensor to come on just before that level.

The manufacturers speak of 10 deg C difference being ideal - you can use a Radio Shack indoor/outdoor thermometer with the probe temporarily mounted to monitor the IC temp and compare it with the ambient temp indicator already fitted in the car.

Rough setting speaks of feeling the IC to be warm to the touch.

I used just-below heatsoak as my setting.

The system has no problem using atomized fine spray to cool the IC pretty fast to just above ambient - in fact I use a small brass nozzle swiped from a hand-sprayer to just "mist" the IC. It's always switched itself off within 1 minute...

Efficiency is related to evaporation, not how many litres per minute you can soak the IC with......
