Vag com and Code readers

Featured Replies

I have a 2014 MK2 Fabia 5j2 with a 1.2 TSI engine cbza I believe.

Firstly I hone no idea if it is on fixed or variable service intervals and need to reset this. As well as this I need to do generic diagnostics.

I have been looking at the ICARSOFT vag reader I can't remember the exact model. But I have also seen knock off vagcom cables.

I have never used vag com so was wondering what sort of equipment I need to use it and what are the costs associated with it.

Any help or recommendations of alternatives is greatly appreciated.

You don't need any equipment to reset the service interval to fixed.

A good VAG diagnostic app / tool is OBDeleven. https://obdeleven.com/

I do a lot of miles so will need to change variable. Is that possible without a tool?

Does obd11 need a subscription?

Thanks for the help

Not sure if the Fabia II could run variable servicing?

What sort of annual mileage are doing then?

Thanks for the info I'll take a look at obd11.

I'm doing 33k miles a year which is mostly a 100 mile commute every day.

The only reason I ask is it's listed under the oil section of the manual that it can take vw504 on fixed and 507 on variable or the other way round. But the online manual lists VW 502.

Honestly I have never had a problem finding oil and service intervals with any car before until now.

Thank you for the help

@MustardMash, 504 rated oils are always 507 too, I think you'll find, see if you can find any that have one but not the other rating on the bottle.

If you'd like me to look up what service regime your car was set to at build, please reply with VIN to a private message I'm about to send to you.

I believe any Skoda with an oil level/temperature sender in the sump, and at least one brake pad warning sensor can be set to variable servicing. Also, according to a post by @Tech1e in the thread that @AGFalco linked above, all reasonably recent Skodas (except Citigo) are set to variable servicing in the factory, and therefore can be set to this again. I would tend to trust his info as he worked as a master tech for some while.
