Wireless Android Auto - Looking for Recommendation

Featured Replies

Afternoon all,

Just wondering if anyone has recommendations for a Wireless Android Auto dongle that works reliably with a 2018 Kodiaq SE with Bolero?

I've seen the two below suggested for the Octavia Mk3 which will probably work fine but figured it would be good to check what, if anything, people's experiences are with a Kodiaq.

AAWireless TWO - Wireless Android Auto Adapter

New Upgrade Mini Android Auto Adapter for Wired Android Auto Smart Carplay Ai Box Bluetooth WiFi Auto connect Wired to Wireless - AliExpress 34

Cheers in advance

I have AAWireless first edition. Works perfectly.

Thanks... So second edition would probably be ok too.

Probably even better, meanings of the startup time. Mine takes about 20 sec. Still getting updates (install according app to your phone).

It's just a bluetooth bridge between your phone and the headunit. No GPS.

Better adapters have a price tag too. I have also a Ottocast P3 for 350 euros. I has all the whistles, but still no GPS.

Just looked at the Ottocast Mini Cube 3 - it's on offer at the moment and looks like it could be a very neat solution for basic Wireless AA.

I think I may take a punt on it

Don't. I use Ottocast only for watching TV sometimes when wife is shopping or WRC+ during driving with friends.

Ottocast uses Carplay protocol to connect to the headunit. AA becomes not a natural part of the infotainment, but as an app inside the app. More worse - your phone will connect to the car only via Ottocast and that's a mess.

hmmm... I may have just wasted £30 then... ah well we live and learn.

We don't know it yet. My Ottocast is fully packed, it's basically an Android mini computer. Mini Cube seems to be wireless dongle for AA only. Could work like any other. Let us know, when arrives.

Ok I've been using the ottocast mini cube 3 for a couple of weeks now and have to say I'm not impressed. Connection is very hit and miss, only connecting maybe 5 or 10 percent of the time, even after resetting both phone, car and dongle. When it does connect it's fine but a wired connection is quicker and more reliable it seems. This is with a Bolero and any of the families Motorola G35, G55, G15 or even an old Nokia. The car seems to recognise the ottocast but it then goes round and trying to connect to the phone. It may therefore simply be an issue with the combination we have.

It also doesn't seem to like changing phones or connecting to a different phone if, say my wife drives but again that could be our phones or something.

I think I'll be sending it back unless I can find a solution.

Edit: having thought and looked at this some more I 'think' the set up seems to be getting it's knickers in a twist over android and apple connections, as someone else mentioned that the ottocast is primarily a car play device that runs android auto within an internal app. If so that could explain a lot and why the other day it was trying to connect as carplay and wouldn't even give me the option of android auto.

Yes, that's the case, at least on mine and seems on yours too. Go for AAWireless. It's made in China, but developed and produced by a Swiss guy as a startup. Works flawlessly.

Yes. I'm currently looking at the AAWireless Two - the one without carplay - with the button that can switch between phones and put it into standby as that should suit. It's a bit more expensive but fingers crossed...

As I already said, my AAW of the very first patch made works fine about 5 or 6 years already. And it still gets updates.

I bought a wireless car play /AA mini cube from AliExpress for £4 and it works great. No lag at all on touchscreen but slight lag between image and audio but you only Notice it when skipping audio or changing tracks. Otherwise is great.

Last update for me here .. I ended up with an AAWireless Two and it works perfectly, unlike the Ottocast.

I'll be passing the latter on to AN other.

There is an AAWireless app for Android, it keeps your device updated.

Yep found that and that works great too. Device update and button functions tweaked already 😃
