freeview and signal boosters

Featured Replies

can you use a regular aerial booster with a freeview box to improve the signal strength??

do you need a special one maybe?

any tv genius out there know?

:ne_nau:

It usually says on the box if it's suitable for digital. Having said that I would expect them all to be compatible with freeview these days

excellent, will be looking in the shops tomorrow :)

Yes, most boosters should be wideband now.

Why are you installing one?

Do bear in mind that you're unlikely to see much improvement in the SNR when using a booster - in some cases you will make matters worse (for instance you will lose impulse noise immunity by a dB value equivalent to your booster's "strength", quite important with DVB).

If you're using a booster in order to distribute the signal around your house, get a good quality low-gain device like the SLX loftboxes.

Otherwise, get a decent CAI standard 2 (Televes Aerial DAT45 springs to mind) or 1 (DAT75, amazing signal properties, but it's a monster :o ) aerial, depending on where you are, some decent cable and do the job properly :).

then not a lot of use to me sadly.

Something like this might be more to your spec?

Not spotted too many but perhaps Maplins or similar sites will have suitable boosters as well :)

seen them thanks mate but after talking to marston auto's one of the guys there was ein the same situation about 3 years ago and could never really imnprove the signal quality.

his now works perfectly in good reception areas but he has a bought a car specific DVB-T freeview box that has twin tunres etc etc, the main drawback is they cost about £250+
