Failing door latch?

I have a 2020 karoq.

Went out on Tueaday and the car was frozen over (Scotland). Driver's door wouldn't open so had to open from the inside via the passenger side. Door opened fine however wouldn't then close. The latch wouldn't "catch".

Fiddled with the little latch on the side of the door and sprayer with a lubricant and it eventually closed. Took about 5 minutes.

No issues until today where the door was latching but the dashboard was telling me the door was open. Again I cleaned the little latch on the side of the door and it registered eventually as.being closed.

Symptoms of something failing? These parts affected by cold weather? Just a dirty mechanism that needs a good clean and lube?

I suspect it's the cold. May even still have some ice caught up somewhere inside. On.y way to be sure is wait until the temperature improves.

As said probably ice thats making it stick. Either wait for warmer weather or get the hairdrier out and warm it up/dry it out. My octavia wouldnt open this morning as the rubber seals had frozen to doors. Waiting for sun to hit it so I can get in.

I have the same problem. (Also in Scotland).
I can unlock the doors with the remote, but when I try to open the driver's door, it feels like the door is still locked.

It's caused by water inside the lock mechanism freezing, and not properly releasing. I had it on my previous Octavia.
The only real cure is to take the door panel off, to get access to the mechanism, dry it out, and then spray it generously with lithium grease. The trick is to prevent water from settling in the mechanism again, so it won't freeze. (WD40 doesn't last)
That'll be a job for the summer.

Freezing door seals can be cured by smearing them with silicone grease.

What did you lubricate it with?

Hopefully not WD40. I made the mistake once of using that on the lock on my alley gate. The residue turns into a stiff/sold waxy substance when it's very cold and it is possible, even if remotely, that the on-going low air temperature is holding something in the 'wrong' position making the car think the door is not closed properly.

Gave the door latch a good clean and spray with a silicone lubricant (not wd40) and has so far been fine until this morning.

I had to defrost the car this morning. I drove the car for 40 minutes or so and pulled into the garage to grab a coffee. The door wouldn't open from the inside this time. I had to put down the window to let myself out. 5 minutes later after parking at work I was able to let myself out using the inside lever without issue.

Can't be a coincidence that all three issues have occurred when the temperature has been below zero. Most likely some water ingress into the mechanism and it is freezing over now that the weather is getting colder however I have emailed my local dealer for some advice.

My driver's door lock also froze on Tuesday on my MY2019 1.0 Karoq DSG SE Tech. I pulled the handle and it remained sticking out until I pushed it in again - the door had luckily opened anyway. Once inside, it seemed to properly close, but then some yards along the road when turning on a bend, the door opened a crack but fortunately was held in place by some sort of latch. Stopped the car, shut the door and set off again, but it kept opening again every so often for a while.

Anyway, after say 5mins the car must have warmed up enough to thaw things out and I heard the auto door lock leap into action and saw the switch was now illuminated. I doubt it had been lit before then. So that seemed to be that.

But no. I tried turning on the ACC a little later and it wouldn't obey and refused to do so for the rest of the 90min journey. Thoughts turned to 'is this the sign of something expensive', but reasoned the door issue had probably temporarily unnerved the little ACC computer - I did think of stopping the car and switching the ignition off and on again, but as traffic was light on the M25 (almost unbelievably so) and on the M4, didn't bother, but was getting an itchy cramp feeling in my right foot by the end of the journey.

Setting off again a few hours later and fortunately ACC was restored & still seems OK, confirming my reasoning. I know some of you would have said good riddance if it had permanently failed, but I do like my ACC and was beginning to miss it.

One of our pool cars is a 2013 Passat, and we have to pour warm/hot water over the drivers door if the windscreen is iced over to thaw the lock. All the other doors are fine, but the drivers door mechanism seems to freeze up internally. Without the hot water it sometime opens but then does not latch shut!

We have to make sure to park it somewhere that gets the early morning winter sun on the drivers door, as this helps!.
