Egr cooler

Featured Replies

HELP. Hi im having a problem with white smoke/ steam from exhaust when under load. If I accelerator slowly there's nothing but if you put your foot down then there's clouds of white and fluid or liquid hits the rear screen.

Does the petrol vrs have a egr cooler in cant find any on car parts web sites.

Any advice welcome

Car is a 2017 vrs petrol manual 230 bhp.

What are your coolant levels doing? Are you using lots of coolant?

Unlikely, I think.

Petrol models tend not to use external EGR any more, using valve overlap instead to do it within.

The fact that the car is used gently (and lots of short journeys??) may mean that condensation from combustion is tending to build up in the exhaust system.

This then becomes apparent and is removed as liquid water or steam by more vigorous gas flow when driven harder.

No coolant loss = no problem really.

Cheers pete. Only worry is it seems to last for quite a long time im not sure how much condensation there can be in the system.

I might do a pressure test to see if coolant level drops then try to hunt it down.

Roughly speaking a litre of petrol or diesel combusted in an engine results in a litre of liquid water being created.

Mostly this remains in vapour phase and exits the exhaust unnoticed, but in cold ambient conditions and if the whole exhaust system doesn't get hot regularly, it becomes apparent as condensed liquid water.
