Skoda super 2.0 tsi mpg

Featured Replies

Hi all,

About to trade in my octavia for superb as i cant adjust it and have continual pain in my back.

Id prefer a 2.0 tdi or 1.5tsi. Ive already lost alot of money in the year and theres a 2019 2l 190 petrol hatch with dsg available. Which will only need 500 from me to trade in.

My concern is i do about 12000 miles a year comprised of 10k motorway to get to work 50 mile each way. The other 2000 is short trips or days out likely on the motorway.

How economical is the 190 to run on the motorway and what do people generally get on a 50 mile run. Is it unrealistic to think it could get 45-50mpg on the motorway?

Last year i opted for the 2.0 tdi 150 which sees me getting 67-70 on average so a stark change likely but ill be in comfort. Id take a 1.5 tsi but means added cost of anout 2-3k on what available an less spec.

I have a 190 L&K DSG. On a run of this length i would be able to get 45 mpg without trying. Taking it steady but keeping to the speed limits can easily exceed 50mpg. The best I've seen is about 55 on a long run.

I've had the car for 18 months now and the (lack of) fuel consumption has been a great surprise to me. I came from a Ford Puma 155 manual and I can honestly say the Superb takes less fuel in all circumstances.

45-50mpg on a run is easy enough from the 2.0TSi 190.

I have the older 220 TSi and have done just over 12k miles since buying it 6 months ago.

Just checked the app and have averaged 40mpg overall since purchase, which includes a good mix of motorway and city…although bear in mind it will drink like a fish around town!

From what I’ve read, you’ll get more from a 190 TSI than the 220, so will be good.

I’m happy with its economy and it’s silky smooth…I’m done with clattery diesels 😅…and it’s a fair bit more economical than my previous car, a Leon Cupra 300!

It’s cheap to run as it doesn’t break, and all I’ve had to do is normal wear and tear items for a wagon its age.

From what you say, comfort is paramount and you won’t go wrong with a Superb, I shoulda bought one years ago!

Thanks for that. Think the MPG might be slightly effected as ive just realised it has 19inch wheels and one thing i prefer about the mk4 octavia is less road noise than all the superbs i have driven.

Any concerns on this service record. I seem to remember that people advised getting dsg done at 40. Is this the case with 7 speed gear box?

Not necessarily keen on the every 2 year oil changes as i have always done yearly so would appreciate some advice on this.

I’m with you regarding the long life service intervals; would much rather do 10k miles/12months…my wife’s car does about 2k per year, but it gets an oil and filter change yearly without fail.

With regards to the 7 speed, I think that’s 80k miles, but again, I’d ‘belt and braces’ it and do an oil change at 40k miles - happy to take others’s advice though if that’s wrong!

If you’re really agonising over fuel economy then go for a diesel, it depends on what your financial priorities are.

I’ll swap your 19” wheels for my 18’s 🤣

Thanks for everyones comments just waiting for dealer toget back to me on service questions.

Question. There is a hatch with less adds but tsi engine in my budget. Also estate but se-tec and 200 miles from me. Bit concerned over distance selling but know im more protected.

My question is though is cabin noise the same for hatch as estate?

Re Oil Services, Fixed or Variable. You pays your money, you chose when you get work done & as far as the DQ381 if you want sooner than 80,000 miles and even at 40,000 you are the customer just get done when you want. Remember and insist on the Filter changed, and not the crazy At the 2nd Service rubbish.

My experience with the hatch is that it's very quiet, and surprisingly still has oodles of space - considerably more, and a lot quieter than my previous Leon Cupra Estate, which I'd lined the boot floor and under the rear seat bench with sound-deadening.

I'd have probably gone for an estate had I had the choice (but I really liked the car when I saw it), however I've not felt 'wanting', and regularly carry a lot of gear with the back seats down due to the shape of the load (which would require the estate's seats to be dropped too).

I've historically gone for estates for the 'just in case' scenario, which I don't think I've ever really needed, but I do prefer the shape, and knowing the rear window is the end of the car 😉

Go and check out both, it's got to suit your needs, but I don't think you'll be disappointed with either.

Hi , a friend of mine has the Superb 2.0 litre diesel estate car and I have the 1.5 petrol hatch.

Every time my mate gets into my car he comments how much quiter my car is.

His other gripe that his car runs on 19" wheels with Michelin PS4s and he does like the ride compared with mine with 18" wheels shod again with Michelin Primary 4 + tyres.

How reliable is the add blue system ( diesel )Skoda use on there line up

The hatch is 625 litres - it’s a mammoth boot and my friend with an estate c-class who said “wow” when the boot opened.

So not losing much space - biggest issue is the opening difference. Definitely don’t discount it.

Cheers. I do like the estate probably more suitable and then some with a mediumsize dog but given the boot in the hatch it would be fine for the odd occasion shes in

Thanks very much. Took it out today and despite being a lovely car I noticed the mpg wasnt great for me at least. It was worth the trip though totest it out and definetly has me debating the hatch now. I think its comparable to my octavia now and i only need the length anyway for fishing rods. Dog for occasional use but she doesnt go in the car much.

I noticed the cabin was quieter than the estate which is a big thing. Somewhat noise sensitive and alays find like my ears are popping in the estate. How does the 1.5 do on the motorway mpg wise? I think its either this or the diesel in a hatch.

When you say opening difference cab you expand on what you mean

Hi , on the motorway at 70 mph it will average 50 mpg but has occasionally achieved 54mpg.

If you go for a diesel check issues with ad blue.

As in - the boot opening is smaller in the hatch; the estate is bigger and squarer and less to get over.

Looking back at my annual trips to Lithuania which average around 3,300 miles per trip, in 2024 the last time I went in my 2016 2.0 TDi 190 it averaged 55.3 mpg and the first time I went in my 2023 2.0 TSi 190 in 2024, it averaged 50.2 mpg. With the current price of diesel in the UK about 10p more than petrol and with the added cost of AdBlue, the savings of running a diesel are negligible for me. Also, as I'm now retired and make many more short journeys around town between the occasional long trip, there would be no point in me buying a diesel.

Hi penpusher , have you experienced any add blue issues with your diesel car.

When I had a Mercedes on some of the forums and blue issues were a hot topic ( expensive to repair )

Over 8 years, my 2.0 tsi has averaged 36 mpg. I measure at the pump. The worst tankful was 26.5 mpg, the best 43.1 mpg. I do a lot of town driving, but take an extended trip most years. Having come from a 2.0 Brera, I'm happy with the mileage. I only do about 4K miles a year.

Hi dsgman

The only issues I had with AdBlue were in the winter when I wasn't using the car to go very far during covid when the DPF warning light came on. I drove up and down the Brecon bypass a few times to clear it and when I traded the car in at 8 years old, it was running fine. Apart from when covid prevented us from travelling, we'd make occasional trips trips to Merthyr Tydfil and Hereford from Brecon during the winter and this was enough to prevent the warning light coming on. I filled AdBlue up with i0 litres when the gauge showed it'd take that much and followed the procedure exactly as described and never had any issues.

For the last 4 years I have been driving a SE L Hatchback 2.0TSI 190 on 19 inch wheels. The engine is very good, quiet, responsive and trouble free and IMO is very well suited to the car. Unfortunately economy is not its strong point - as others have stated if you are motorway driving at legal speeds you will see 45+ mpg however the moment you hit town driving you are down to low 30s mpg in summer and you will see 24mpg on short winter runs in town.

I am retired so most of my driving is rural /town with say 25% motorway now and my total mpg is 32,6

Having said the above I would not go back to diesel because of the quality of the drive with 2.0 petrol

Hope the above helps
