Strange, and quick condensation on windscreen

Featured Replies

Dear fellow Superb owners!

I have been lurking for years on the forum, owned a 2016 mk3, and I would like to thank all for the posts and solutions which helped me a lot at fixing (AC flap motors, minor other stuff like nav update).

I switched the ol'horse to a 2023 mk3 FL, 2.0 cr 150 PS DSG7. All was well, till this cold snap came, and now I am clueless about this strange behaviour of the HVAC system.

I was driving for like 1.5 hrs in temps ranging from -8 to -5. Suddenly I felt a freaking humid air thru my nose and the windshield started to fog up quickly (air quality sensor kicked in). Sure, it was cold outside, is this really normal?

I went to the dealership, where they checked this fogging, and of course it wasnt that bad after standing still for 5 mins till a technician came to check, interesting... so of course they said it is normal. (But I drove the 2016 one the same day, and I went on trying the inner air circ button for an hour, NOTHING, not even a slight patch of fog)

One thing to note, the windscreen was replaced before selling the car to me, as it had a crack. Can this be a botched install, maybe?

Of course, I have a video of it, how it looks, how fast it builds up, the outside temp was -8.5 at that time:

I would greatly appreciate any feedback from you fellow owners, maybe you guys have an idea what or where to look for. Additionally, fogging started also, when the headlights were washed, only slightly though.

me to have a lot of problems with ventilation after swapped 2016. Mk3 to 2023. Mk3.FL

fogging front screen i have seen, but haven't catch reasons

another problem is short time(~1 min) bad smell, after reversing or driving upward in parking building

filter is changed 2x a year

and my winter pain - cold airflow over my left leg

Sad to hear that MartiniB!

I dont have that problem aroubd the obd port, so I can offer pictures of that area, maybe that helps? In exchange you could check how the car reacts to using the inner air circulation in this cold 😉

Quick update on the matter.
Even though that the windscreen was changed by an official skoda dealer in germany, it turned out the install was botched and there were holes on the under side, in the glue itself. RESOLVED

Check the pollen filter and replace if necessary.

Not uncommon for this service item to be missed.

engine and cabin filters are replaced twice a year on each 8 kKm

What about drainage for air-con condensation? Can there be some water trapped which is causing an occasional fogging and also the smell as it stagnates?

That is all well and good for getting rid of the smell but if the drainage is partially blocked then 1. The smell will return and 2. It might be the cause of the smell and condensation.

Is it worth trying to locate the path yourself or take to a specialist?

Plenum chamber not draining well? If you park on a slope and it rains water may accumulate in the chamber more than is normal. Sunroof drains?
