Octavia mk 3 1.6 TDI what should I consider replacing?

Featured Replies

I have a 1.6 TDI dsg automatic. 107k miles. Nearly 11 yrs old. Due for a full service and MOT soon. What should I consider replacing before it becomes an issue? I have minimal mechanical knowledge or experience.

I've had the car since 12k miles and it has been a very reliable car with great fuel efficiency. I've not replaced anything other than usual tyres and break pads. I drive 15k miles per year at moment and service every 6 mths. I'm considering changing the car in the next year but it keeps going and passing mot after mot.

Thanks in advance.

Possible stuff. A service of the brakes and a brake fluid change. The Pollen filter and a clean out / disinfecting. The Fuel filter changed, Maybe the AC serviced. Stuff to discuss with a good independent mechanic. The DQ200 DSG does not have a service schedule but it might be worth the oilo changed in the Box and the MCU. But that would maybe be you going to an Auto Gearbox Specialist unless the mechanic is familiar with them. ?? Has the cambelt & water pump never been changed?

Thanks for quick response. Never changed cambelt and water pump. Google suggests this is a thing to consider. I have a reliable, local garage. Would this be an easy thing for them to add to a service?

Not a cheap thing. But maybe the mechanic would check the cam belt. If keeping the car i would be doing it, and while being done it is more economic to have the water pump replaced.

Thanks so much. I'll ask for a quote at least. Rather replace now than wait for an issue. I feel somewhat attached to this car as it has driven so well for so many miles.

I had a water leak at 108k miles, took to an indie and had a phone call to say the belt was falling apart and pump leaking, i'd had the car from new, i hadn't hammered it and the mileage was well within service schedule.

Its around £5/600 for pump, belt and tensioner.

If the car is causing no problems and passes MOT no bother I would definitely keep it and get timing belt checked/replaced including water pump plus coolant change. Apart from that a general service. ie all filters plus oil is probably all it needs. As its a DSG then maybe contact a specialist and ask for a quote for oil change and check up. I tend to go along the lines if it isnt broken dont fix it.
