225/40/16, too wide?

Featured Replies

Lol yeah true that.

I currently have 195/50 r15 whcih i surpose is a nice comprimise. BUT I would turn down a bit more rubber - maybe 215 40 r16? Specially for when I take her round Silverstone ;)

lol thats hardcore. Surlythe extra grip provided will enable it to corner faster?

Cornering faster relies on two things a) being able to reach the same speeds (or more!) for the corner and B) not being overtyred, so you actually do get extra grip and not just "wobble" round the corner.

Imvho, the quality of the rubber far outweighs the amount of it ;)

Hehe, once up to speed it drives very well.

But you are right regarding tires. I`ve had a play in my dads Volvo 850 with 211 bhp, with Eagle F1`s....there is so much grip, also in the wet.

I will be looking at P-Zero Nero`s, as i think the F1`s are a little too noisy.

Also a wider tyre will provide less grip in the wide due to the larger surface area. ;)

The standard vRS wheels are 16 x 6.5 ET 37 IIRC

I remember someone posting a thread who had 225 profile tyres and he only had rubbing problems at full lock. I assume a lot will depend on the offset of the wheel.

Thanks for all your advice guys. I have now ordered new tyres: 215/40/16.

Now it only needs a engine transplant.
