Car Not Activated

Featured Replies

I’ve just bought my 4th Octavia, a 2022 2.0L. My wife persuaded me to change although I thought at age 70 my 2014 model with 155000 miles would see me out 😇

Reading this forum i see how much things have moved on which is a bit daunting. My car did a software update as soon as I bought it (not an approved used Skoda, I didn’t think the dealer on my last car did anything to earn my repeat business so i bought it from Cinch as my daughter had a good experience with them).

Anyway my query is that i can’t actívate the car (which may not be a big deal anyway as I’m not sure what the benefits are). I downloaded the app and registered but when i try to actívate the car using the same login détails, it just comes back with “incorrect username or password”. The ‘forgot password” option doesn’t work either.

So I’ve done a couple of hundred miles on a short break this week and I’m pleased with the car but using the infotainment as a Guest. Thought I’d ask here first although the app has a contact number for support.

Hello, welcome to the forum.

@pab567 may be able to offer some advice.

Not sure but a 'reset to factory settings' might allow access - but I wonder if it is possible that the infotainment system needs to be unlocked to allow activation.

Unfortunately I am not able to help in this case

I can try that in the morning (but the manual says 15 is not used).

I don’t understand the other bit.

Excuse my ignorance, I’ve only had the car 4 days. 1989 is the car software right? And I’ve got media codec 3.1.4 if that helps.

OK, try fuse Trick

Fuse trick didn’t work. Factory reset didn’t work either. I suppose I should contact Škoda. Maybe I’ll try creating another account on the app with a different email.

The infotainment says I can change password in the app but I don’t see any setting for this.

You could try creating the new account in the car, then log in to it via the app.

That’s an idea…

It doesn’t let you do that, just presents a QR code to download the app.

However I created a new account and it worked 😇

Now a couple more questions:

Apart from getting my name on the dash, what other benefits are there (apart from the paid extras which don’t really appeal anyway)?

And I tried to add my wife as a user but I assume she needs an account first, as it just asks for a login?

Seems it has changed then, when I go my car back in 2021 I could create an account in the car. Many updates since then!

Anyway, pleased to hear you have it working now.

Other than car data being visible in the App and using that app to check lock status etc, the biggest benefit that I can see is that with an account your settings are saved to your account. So, when you get your wife's account set up (yes, she needs a Skoda ID account too) and personalises the car, each user has their customised settings. Also, each key can be associated with a different user so when unlocking the car it has the appropriate settings.

Those settings will include things like favourites and shortcuts set up in the Infotainment system (e.g. radio stations and, I think, temperature; if you have electrically adjustable seats then they can be associated with the key and user too).

I've not tried this yet, but I believe that as the settings are sync'd back to the Škoda servers, should you get a second Škoda, or loan or hire car and login, then any compatible settings will be sync'd to that car too.

More questions 😂

I tried altering the privacy settings to “share” as I read somewhere it would enable stuff. However I instantly got an email saying a long list of things had been disabled (honk and flash etc but basically everything). I then toggled the 4 privacy modes and got emails showing different subsets of the first list being disabled, but there’s no way I can get anything saying any functions have been ENABLED again.

I’m now wondering if the reason is that I have to pay for Care Connect (is this worthwhile, and do others use it). The app shows Infotainment Online must have been included as it expired in January 2024 when the car was a year old. But I’m assuming that the previous owner never subscribed to anything else.

Care Connect subscription is needed for things like Honk & Flash, remote lock/unlock (if your car supports that), notifications about alarm triggers, etc.

Infotainment Online includes goodies such as map updates, traffic updates, and a bunch of other stuff - which may or may not be useful 😂

Take a look at this Škoda page and enter your VIN - should give you what features are available for your specific car should you decide to pay the subscription.

Availability list

"...do others use it?..."

Yes and no!

Having been on this forum about 4 years opinion is very much divided as to the value of one or other, or both the subscriptions. I do subscribe to both, perhaps more interesting than useful though; and I have to admit, it is NOT essential. I am one of the [seemingly few] who uses the built in SatNav feature so the online updates are beneficial - others swear by Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze etc. eschewing the built in system. Each to their own.

This page gives a marketing view of the Connect Services - https://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/skoda-connect

If you have a spare bit of cash it may be worth signing up for a year and seeing how much value you get from it. Periodically it is discounted by about 1/3rd so keep an eye on that too.

Thanks for that, appreciate your time 👏

Now I’ve got the app working, it actually lists all the paid functions and what they do. Care Connect is only £36 and there’s a 3 month free trial anyway. I just can’t understand why I was disabling things I didn’t have to begin with…

The "disabling" message you received is referring to some functionalities that were removed from the App - independent of what your privacy settings were.
Those who used older versions of VAG Apps (VW, Skoda, Seat/Cupra) will know that sometime last year during one of the updates we were notified that the honk and flash functions were removed.

For ICE vehicles the App might not seem to be a big deal and probably not worth to pay for. However, for those with PHEV it is really a big deal: not only you can remotely start/stop the HV battery charging, but it's really convenient to precondition the cabin before departure (cooling in hot summer days, heating in cold weather).
