Question from a Karoq owner

Featured Replies

While my Karoq was in the dealers today I took a good look at an Elroq Sportline in the showroom. Very impressed, one thing puzzled me though. What do the flappy paddles on the steering wheel do please? On my Karoq they put the DSG in manual mode.

They adjust the regen but I've yet to figure out how. I just put ours in B and let the car do the rest.

Only learnt the other day that Elroq stands for electric Karoq

Skoda, unlike other brands haven shoehorned electric and hybrid into current models but designed a new model from the ground up. So there are E models to match the current ICE models. Being VAG they will share as many VAG components as possible

Most manufacturers have dedicated EV platforms. Some are heading back the other way to be able to have ICE power plants as EV take up hasn’t met earlier projections. Skoda obviously just takes the VAG MEB platform

This is a myth put around by people who think climate change is a hoax.

Initially, there was a 100% cut off on selling new ICE vehicles. EV's have improved greatly, but there are a few scenarios, Emergency Services etc farmers who need a re-fuel time measured in seconds and/or where there are no way of putting in EV chargers. Therefore, the 100% has been relaxed to 90%

However, in a decade, this will change when Hydrogen power becomes commercially viable in the same way EVs are now. It will then be only EV's and Hydrogen power, the petrol and diesel power will go.

This will only be for new vehicles so that vintage cars will still run, but most vintage cars are not used daily or over lots of miles. Most current ICE cars will be gone in 20–25 years.

As there are Hydrogen buses running now (in Coventry) and JCB has hydrogen powered earth moving trucks I think that most of the HGV fleet will go to Hydrogen power over the next 15–20 years

What some manufacturers are doing is hoping to go from petrol/diesel to hydrogen for some models.

I find your comment offensive.

Saying you think I’m a climate change denier because you don’t like the fact that some companies are going back to platforms that allow for ev and ice since ev sales have not gone to forecast. By the way almost all hydrogen is made from natural gas so in addition to the host of issues hydrogen has as a fuel source it doesn’t escape hydrocarbons.

I said it is a myth usually pushed by climate change deniers. I didn't say you were one. (are you?)

EV sales are not going as well as many hoped because there is a lot of pushback by some people. OTOH, the EV sales are quite substantial. Though regions vary a bit. No one is going back to petrol/diesel ICE, at least not according to the groups I talk to.

The change from 100% EV's to 90% EVs at the original deadline point in Europe is to give some flexibility, and as I said because some scenarios don't work well with EV's These will aim to eventually use hydrogen. The majority of the world will be EV's.

However, this is not good for the environment when you look at what goes into a battery and battery recycling. So, we are swapping one problem for another. The solution in many parts of the world is better public transport. 85% of the UK population is urban, if you can get them to use public transport most of the time that does far more to solve the problem. When living in cities I often didn't have, or need, a car.
