Fabia Mk1 1.4 mpi 2000 Left Engine Mount

Hi, in the attached video I am rocking the engine back and forth with my hands, and I'm wondering if the play in the engine mount is too much, meaning it should be replaced?

Thanks for any help

Best regards

Adam

Hello Adam, welcome to the forum.

I'd say that movement is excessive - how does it compare to the other side?

Hi Warrior, thanks for your reply and your welcome :) The one on the other side which is the circular one moves a bit but not as much. The Fabia is a left-hand drive by the way. My feeling is also that it is a bit too much, and if the car is in gear, a creaking noise comes from the gearbox as I rock the car back and forth. When pulling of or rolling on and off of the accelerator at low speeds there comes also a creaking noise from that area of the gear box near the mount.

If you are unable to do it yourself, I suggest you get a mechanic to check all engine mounts and replace as necessary - very likely that at least the one pictured has failed completely.

Thanks a lot for your advice, I will get them all checked, cheers! :)

I agree that mount has had it and due to the movement I reckon the other side should be replaced at same time. On my Mk1 theres a dogbone (gearbox to chassis). I would have that checked as well. If replacing it there are two bolts but one is shorter and goes into crossmember with steering rack. I you get them mixed up it can destroy rack. From memory there not too bad to change.

Thanks Alasdair, I will check the dogbone out too, cheers! Adam :)

When I said not to bad to change I meant the engine mounts. Think the bushes in dog bone are more difficult although I have seen polybush repair kits for them. I think there is an insert to save removing old bushes in chassis etc. looks like this

Brilliant Alasdair, very helpful thanks. I look forward to changing them. Cheers.

Hopefully its just the engine mounts. Sons mk1 fabia is a 2006 and his dogbone link was fine when I did the clutch. Reckon you could raise engine enough with block of wood to distribute the load on sump and do each side seperately.

That is what I thought I'd do, I'll do the one I filmed first, and see what difference it makes, then tackle the others if needed.

Thanks again for your input
