Screenwash usage

Featured Replies

Since getting my Superb in November I think it’s used 25L or so of Screenwash.

I have changed the headlight wash to be 1 in 20 rather than 1 in 10 but it’s still using a lot. I know the roads have been mucky with salt and dirt etc so it gets used quite a bit but gut feel is it’s excessive.

It’s not a faulty sensor either as when it alerts me to low level it will take 4L or so to fill it up.

Is there any common places for Screenwash to leak? Does your superb use lots of Screenwash?

It doesn’t let you operate the Screenwash with the bonnet open so it’s not possible to run the pumps and see if there’s any leaks.

No problems on my Superb but my daughter's previous car (a Ford Ka+) was drinking screenwash like no tomorrow. It turned out to be a split hose between the reservoir and the pump. If you've not already done so then look under the car for obvious signs - on hers it trickled down between the bumper and the wheel arch liner.

I cover about 3k miles a month and over the winter period I probably refill it once every two weeks, this is usually before the low warning light comes on, but about 5 litres a month as a rough guide for me.

Usage very much depends upon if you give a short or extended wash, I also give the rear screen a short wash just before I put it into reverse, not because the rear screen is dirty (I have a hatch) but it washes the rear camera at the same time.

Thanks. It’s in for service at the end of the month so I’ll ask them to have a look when it’s up on the ramp

Ok so it’s probably not far off this. I need to log when I buy it so I can be certain of usage I think.

I use my screenwash approx 3-4 times a week as I park my car outside during the day while at work - windscreen gets dusty, hence it needs a screen wash.

That said, I would refill the windscreen wash bottle tank one every 3 months or so.

Mine has the larger washer bottle tank as it has the headlight washer system too.

I believe it's 5.7L tank.

You can increase the response time for the headlight washers to 1.5 or 2 seconds. That means you will only get a headlight wash when you hold the stork longer.

Ah didn’t know that. Is that in the long coding?

That is correct - but I cannot find where it was ... that I took the info from ...

I found it in the settings on carscanner so have changed it to 2500 which I assume is 2.5seconds if it’s in ms

Also shortened the duration of each wash slightly.

With this setting you can also reduce the screen to headlight ratio to 1:1 and you decide when headlights get washed by a longer pull action.
