changing battery

Featured Replies

Having just done the satnav upgrade, it would appear my stop/start battery has died. I currently have it on charge to hopefully get me to Halfords to pick up a new battery ( I knew i`d have to get one at some point as the stop/start was a bit sporadic at best)

My question is this.. Is there a code to input into the Colombus infotainment system following a battery change to get it to work again or does it just carry on as normal?

If still in the same car then no code should be required - unless CAN module inside Columbus is broken as then there is no communication with the car over CAN so Columbus cannot read data from the insruments cluser. In such case it may also discharge battery.

The satnav should carry on working as normal when you change the battery, as far as I'm aware a code is required only if you change the satnav system from one car to another (to avoid stealing the satnav systems)

I have just replaced my battery as close to 'like-for-like' as I could get and it still shows the engine light illuminated as the battery management thingy needs to be updated. Initially every light and 'Bong' was going but once I'd switched it on and off a couple of times things settled down with just the one light showing. I think (BUT I DON'T KNOW) it can be done with a VCDS. But I honestly have no idea, someone is sorting it out for me. The battery was an 'EFB' for 'EFB' if I'd have bought a 'AGM' battery it would deffinately need to be coded apparently. Acyually not sure if this is helpful.......

I have coded a mk3 super battery change using vcds.

Not obvious but once you’ve done it, it was simple. How did I do it I can’t remember, watched a particular YouTube video.

I had a local chap do it with his device, took a while sorting through and checking then re-checking but all done and now seems fine.

I think at the moment everything is working fine. Thanks all for info, tips, advice and general interest, very helpful and reassuring. Not so sure I trust the Skoda franchises to give such useful and pertinent honest advise - but then I just a cinical curmudgeon!
