Battery Registration with Ancel VD700

Featured Replies

I fitted a new Bosch AGM battery to my 2016 Yeti. I bought the Ancel VD700 scanner to register it. Although I can input the capacity, the manufacturer and the serial number there is no input for the battery technology or part number. Is this a software problem with the scanner? I have upgraded to the latest version. As I am changing from EFB to AGM is this important?

Why are you changing to AGM - it would have one anyway if the car has start-stop?

Not sure 're the device question though. I put a new AGM on our 17 Yeti TDI last year - no issues.

It's just to let the charging system know that it's a new battery otherwise it will charge it the same as the old battery which may shorten the new batteries life.

When I fitted mine using Carista all I did was to change the serial number by one from the old one as my battery was NSN.

Yes it is best to change the 'coding' from EFB to AGM, note VW being VW to them AGM is know as "Fleece", look for that in your settings.

Again, yes it sounds like an issue with the scanner. Did you fully update the scanner, firmware and for VW, before you used it to 'code' the battery? If you did fully update the scanner before using it (always a good habit to get into) then you need to contact Ancel to check your car model and year are fully covered for this operation and that you are following correct procedure (which I guess you are, but I don't know).

Have you driven the Yeti since the battery change, if not then start the engine put the headlights, air-con, hazards on and turn the steering wheel all the way in both directions, then turnoff the electrics you don't need and go for a shortish drive - this should help convince the very dumb computer programs that the battery is in good state of charge and health.

Good luck, let us know how you get on.

I contacted Ancel and the reply suggested that the Yeti doesn't need to know the battery technology. Hopefully the charging profile is the same for the AGM battery as the EFB that was in the car from new. I did input the capacity and a new serial number so at least the battery management knows it's a new battery.

AGM has a different profile for my wife's 2015 Fabia with stop/start. AGM batteries have been used on much older cars without VW's stop/start and battery monitoring computer programs but if your Yeti is a stop/start and you need to 'code' the battery then I'd have thought that you need to 'code' in for AGM instead of EFB.

OBDEleven battery adaptation of my wife's car.
