Fabia MKII - 7500km/180 days Service Interval On Reset?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Recently bought the kids a 2012 Fabia 1.2 77Tsi Monte Carlo manual with 58000km (36000 miles) to learn to drive in - great little car. Cosmetically the car was a bit unloved so a bit of a cut and polish has sorted that. The service history book was missing but a sticker on the screen showed an oil change in the past 6000km/18 months and with such a low km worth the risk. To be on the safe side I have just changed the plugs & leads (OBD showed a misfire on #3) and changed the oil, filter, air filter and cabin filter. On resetting the service through the MFD it only reset the interval to 180 days/7500 km (4660 miles) when I was expecting 12 months/15000 km (~10000 miles) on a fixed interval. I used 5w-30 with the VW spec oil as that should be good for the fixed interval here in Australia. Any reason it has only reset the interval for 180 days/7500 km? Is VCDS required to reset to the full interval, or is related to the age of the car?

Thanks in advance!

Bit of an odd one - only aware of two oil service schedules, fixed (annual) and variable (up to 2 years/or xx km)

Have you tried the reset procedure a second time?

There are two service schedules though -

  • Inspection

  • Oil service

These require separate resets and can sometimes be a bit fiddly to get the correct schedule reset.

clarification

there is also a possibility that it have been changed it via vcds, in my fabia i've switched to 9k km

Came accross similar in my folks old MK1. Service kept coming on at 6 month intervals. Garage said it may have changed as it was only used for very very short runs and as never got up to temp properly may need oil etc checked more frequently. They reset it to annual service.

I tried another reset through the MFD, but nothing changed. I tried resets with the OBD apps, but they came up as not supported, but it did show that it is on the standard schedule and not the long life version.

I suspect it is something to do with as @Alasdair1 reported as it has only averaged 4500 km/6000 miles per year, and I know it hasn't been driven much in the past year. At some point I'll have to drop into Skoda and see if they can update it with VCDS, or just bear in mind when I last changed the oil etc.

Chances are that Skoda may have come across this before and will be able to change it. As said my old garage changed my folks one but not sure how. They did not have vcds but may have got someone in with it.
