Caddy MK2 Pickup Help

Featured Replies

Hi all

I'm after a wee bit of help on my Caddy Pickup, which needs a small amount of love and care. I need help to find spares and I'm struggling.

1) In the first photo I've outlined a tensioner and I need to replace it, but I can't find the part.

2) The gear lever waggles around a bit and I'm hoping to find a replacement kit to fix that, anyone know of anything?

3) This might be more of a problem, with the battery charged, the first turnover seems like an effort, my gut feels like it's a compression thing but I'm hoping it's a starter motor?

4) It's got a coolant leak, but that's just hopefully not too much of an issue.

it's a really nice little toy and makes people smile, but it and I need some help, so if anyone can point me in the right direction for any of those parts I'd really appreciate it.

Cheers

Jim

Hi Jim,

1). I've no idea other than the usual supplier(s) perhaps

2). Has been cover a couple of times on here and perhaps there might be a guide in Classic Skoda Guides orI'll give this shout - @D.FYLAKTOS - to D.Fylaktos who will have all info or know where to find it.

3). Did you check the battery voltage, by putting multimeter probes directly on battery posts, before and after charging and if so what were the readings?

Did you check the electrolyte levels in each cell before charging the battery and top up with distilled / de-ionised water as required before charging?

Did you clean the battery posts and battery post clamps inside?

Did you fast charge the battery (higher amps over shorter time?

IF battery is good - try putting a good sound reasonable sized black jump lead from battery negative to starter or nearby engine earth to see if that helps - but obviously be very careful with full battery power at lead(s). And/or do multimeter drop tests on battery posts, then battery post terminals, main (battery) cables and so on to starter motor, earth and power sides. [ edited to remove previous idea with power side as that might cause you a problem ]

4). Never ignore a coolant leak as things can sometimes turn very bad very quickly.

Hope that helps.

Nice looking machine, nice colour, pity about the grille badge. 😉

A simple pressure test in a repair-shop could show the problematic spot.

A hose, the water pump gasket, a connention?

Or put some dye in the coolant, if standard coolant and no leak repair liquid have already been added to the coolant. Leak dye kits freely available from the likes of eBay and elsewhere.

If its losing coolant it may be filling a piston and partially hydraulicking hence difficulty in turnover. Remove spark plugs or injectors if diesel and turn over after being parked for a while. If coolant comes out of either then it may be a HG or cracked head/block(hopefully not)

as for the pulley Is it a tensioner or idle pulley. I came up with febi 30990 for idler and febi 30989 for tensioner. If its the timing tensioner febi 11556. That was from febi parts finder via the reg of car so would need checked.

Havent seen one for years. Used to be a couple of white ones around but alas salt on roads up here killed them. That looks in pretty good condition and yes nice colour.

Hi there,

I think it's leaking as it's sat idle for over a year and seems to have slowly leaked, I've seen the remnents of a leak patch under where it was parked.

it's a 1.9D engine and on the whole it's a pretty solid car, I only use it for fun and whizzing around B Roads, but I really want to get it back on the road, The colour is fron an Austin Alegro ;)

I'm trying to find a parts diagram for the car, so that I can see a layout of all the parts on the Auxilary belt,

You may find one at https://www.lllparts.co.uk/ Go to browse original manufacturer diagram and enter vin or model. Think the alternator/belt etc is under electronics and timing belt under engine. Not sure if on the age of yours but worth a look

Thanks loads, I think you're correct with the parts, I think it's 15 and 5, I'll order the parts you sugested.

Thanks, have a top weekend.

Jim

Will try to once I finished the most awkward clutch master cylinder in the world I reckon. Its one of those you can see it but with hands like shovels cant get to it. Who ever decided to put a dpf in the way should be looking for a new job or if I find them worse. If you ever need to do one on a 1.6tdi mk2 octavia let a garage do it.

Hope you get it sorted
