Skoda Octavia 2019 reverse camera

Featured Replies

Hi!

I recently bought a Skoda Octavia 2019 and I really want it to have a reversing camera. I’ve seen that it’s possible to install and that there are a few options. I am afraid if I buy an aftermarket camera it won’t be calibrated and properly lined up with the backing lines the car show on screen. Also it seems that the quality of the aftermarket ones is not that good. And also, I just want it to be the original one. So for these reasons I am thinking of finding an original camera from another Skoda Octavia or a new one, depending on price. Ive been trying to do some research on this, but I find it very difficult to do. The aftermarket ones seem to be plug and play, while the original one has to be programmed or coded. This doesnt make any sense for me. Is there anyway I can buy the original camera and "plug and play" it? Any tips or ideas on how I can connect it or what I should do?

Member ‘Wayland’ did a brilliant how-to on here about installing a reverse camera, giving all details. Cable routing was via the headlining, it might be better to route it downwards, though, to avoid any airbag action.

Oh okay! Do you know if it was an original camera, or an aftermarket plug and play camera?

Correction, the member was Weyland, not Wayland, sorry.

It’s aftermarket, but comes with the correct boot handle replacement. No coding required, it was plug and play. I took about 3 hours to install.

Here’s a pic of the first post in the thread, to help you search.

Thanks, but what I am looking for is how to connect the original one. This guide is for the aftermarket plug and play ones. They seem to have and adapter which you connect between the camera and the cars system, the original one doesn’t have that.

Ok. I misunderstood. Hope someone else comes along to help you before long. As to the quality of the picture, mine’s fine, comparable imo with that on Mrs B’s Nissan with its original equipment camera.

No worries, thanks for replying! The quality isnt what worries me that most, because some of the aftermarket ones do offer good quality it seems like. What worries me the most is that it seems that these might not be properly calibrated with the parkinglines you see on the screen, making this misleading if you rely too much on them.

Tbh, not noticed any problem - I’ve not hit anything yet! 🤫

I’ve recently fitted an AliX “Highline” camera to my Golf 7.5 which I assume is a similar setup and infrastructure to your Octavia. The dynamic reversing lines are about 100mm too narrow compared with the car’s width. It’s not the end of the world for me, though it means I must use the door mirrors in conjunction with the camera when reversing - which is good practice anyway!

The problem is caused by the aftermarket camera used in my setup being a wider angle than OEM.

I believe the guideline positions can be adjusted in MIB2 using ODIS, VCDS etc, though I can’t advise ‘how’ as I don’t have access to such a scanner. I’m doing some research (which is how I found this thread) and will post here any useful information found. That said, there may be knowledgeable members here with diagnostic scanners who could help.

Thanks for the info! I’ve heard that this forum is the best when it comes to questions about skoda, so I hope someone who has knowledge about this will reply and give me the info I need.

I am very new to this, so I didnt understand much of that, could you please explain it to me as if I dont understand anyting? hahah

Also, I can give you every single detail you need in order to find what parts I need to get for my car, as long as its the original parts.

Sorry if I am asking stupid or obvious questions, but I am so new to this and know so little.

If you look at the second post in the thread mentioned above, it's a post from me fitting a genuine highline camera:

https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/485897-how-to-reverse-camera-fitting-guide/#findComment-5456364

Highline cameras will work without calibration, but if you do want it calibrated, I also added details a few posts later:

Could you please provide me the oem number of the parts I need? The right camera for my car, the wires, etc etc. I am trying to find the right parts online but I am getting overwhelmed by all the different parts and numbers 😩

Thanks so much for the info btw! 😊

The only things you get from Skoda are expensive plugs and an expensive reversing camera.

Then what should I get? I just want the quality to be good and the camera to work with the parking lines

Perhaps you should read the post I linked more carefully...

I used an OEM/original high camera from AiDU Auto on aliexpress

Quick google later: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006269260355.html

You want "OCTAVIA MK3" or "OCTAVIA MK3 WASH" not "OCTAVIA MK3 LOWLINE".

Sorry, I am just so new to this…

I think I will order the one you sent me link to. Thank you so much!
