Moved from a Dacia to a Kamiq & comparing 3 cyl engines

Featured Replies

I had a brief 6 month period owning a Dacia Sandero Stepway before a pathetic dealership backup had me replacing it with the Kamiq 1.0 TSI, both having a 3 cylinder engine and 6 speed box but accelleration in the Dacia was outstanding by comparison no matter what gear you were in and the gearbox very positive in its selection, granted I am still getting used to the Kamiq having covered only 120 miles since I bought it but it just seems a bit sluggish, 15000 on the clock and just had a new clutch fitted, have the engines been de-tuned for the sake of emissions or economy , though an average of 54 MPG including roadwork traffic lights and rush hour crawl is good.

The Kamiq 1.0 Tsi comes with either 95 or 116 hp, sounds like you might have the 95 hp version, as by all accounts on here, the 116 hp versions are very capable.

Didnt the 95 only have a 5 speed box

Can I suggest the OP checks that they don't have other issues like dragging brakes - as my understanding from friends with a 1,0 TSI in a Kamiq is that it's more than capable of lifting it's skirts and getting a wriggle on.

Both the Dacia and my present Skoda use a 6 speed box, believe it was the lesser spec using 5 speed

I had a hire 3 cylinder T-Roc in Germany. It must have been the higher power version as it was 6 speed. I couldn't really feel any difference to my 1.5 TSi Karoq. And I had a 3 cylinder Kamiq 6 speed as a loan car, and that was fine.

What wheel/tyre size. Sons fabia had larger diameter wheels/tyres than normal when he first got it. Acceleration was poor but top speed very good eventually. We changed it back to standard and acceleration is much better now. Pretty nippy for a 1.2 64hp. According to specs the Kamiq should be faster 0-60 than the Dacia. Also wonder why it needed a new clutch at 15000??

I suspect I have a bit of turbo lag that would account for slow pick-up until I hit a particular rev band, could this be sorted by re-programming ?

@johnnie47 It could get a Remap, but then that invalidates your warranty if Non Factory approved software. But i doubt that would bother you since the car needed a new clutch @ 15,000 miles. Was the clutch done before you got it and at a Main Dealers?

Arnold Clark did it

Still wondering why it needed a new clutch at 15000. Wonder if its been a demo or the previous owner has thrashed into the ground or slipped it constantly? which may explain why its down on power. Not sure how you check actual power output of engine.

There are a few Posts / Threads on here about 1.0 TSI Manuals with very premature clutch failures. Pretty low miles. Some have been 'Ex Demonstrators' Management cars / whatever, sold after 3,000 miles / 3 months & Dealerships not wanting to know cand blaming New Drivers rather than while the car was Skoda's or the Dealerships.
