intermittent gearbox malfunction warning while driving

Featured Replies

2017 Skoda Superb 2.0 DSG 6 speed — intermittent gearbox malfunction warning while driving.

Fault code repeatedly logged:

  • U010300 – Lost Communication With Gear Shift Module

  • P091900 – Gear Shift Position Control Error

Symptoms are intermittent and occur while driving, not during startup. The gearbox otherwise operates normally and there has been no obvious PRNDS flashing or incorrect gear indication observed.

Additional scans show multiple sporadic CAN/databus communication faults across several modules (ACC, parking aid, infotainment, gateway, etc.), suggesting a possible intermittent network, grounding, or power distribution issue rather than a mechanical gearbox fault.

The last time this happened the fault appeared immediately after the vehicle was parked with one side elevated on a pavement, suggesting body flex/chassis movement may influence the fault.

Battery has already been replaced.

Center console trim has been removed and visible selector-module connectors/harnesses appear clean, secure, and not under tension.

Am wondering if anyone else has seen anything similar

Do you get the 'Error' message briefly on the dash, if so take a look here:

Its an automatic box with manual possibility. The error message tells you gearbox fault pull over. Normally it is accompanied with a load of other error messages regarding the parking system, and stop start etc. Each message pops up and then disappears. They comes back a minute or so later. if I stop and put the car in park, it may stop me taking it out of park. At this point I can disconnect and reconnect the battery and this allows me to get it out of park. Then I can drive it in manual mode. Sometimes I am speed limited at this point to about 10 miles an hour. The next day it may drive normally. Or fault may persist.

At this stage I honestly think the most likely scenario is: An intermittent power/ground/CAN issue that occasionally causes the gearbox controller to lose communication with the selector module.
