i've used it on some connectors before and spark plug caps , but not specifically on a MAF connector , i can't see it doing any harm though , but be warned its expensive stuff for just a little smear which is all you'll require for the MAF connector

Yup, after coming accross it several times, I thought it was worth a go. I used 'synthetic grease' a clear silicon based grease which I use in my job (to lube up expensive lab kit). It worked a treat. My VRS idles smoother and pulls away smoothly now, no hesitation at all. Not bad for 0.01p of product and 2 mins this morning.

Sorry for asking an SFQ ( silly flippin question ) but what's a MAF connector, what does it do and should I get some of this grease stuff??

It's a Mass Air Flow sensor which is connected to your air intake somewhere. If it gets dirty your car doesn't perform well. No idea aboot the grease though, sorry.

:D Following your post I went out and got some silicone dielectric grease from Halfords - yep it works a bloody treat!!! Thanks.

Right then, Bought some of this magic grease, just wondering where exactly it goes? I had a quick look and took the plug off the pipe and the inside is orange, Is it the orange bit i need to be greasing up? (im Not very mechanicly minded!)

Just half fill up the inside of the orange bit and its surround so that when you squeeze it all back together you have it filled up with the magic stuff.

Let us know what you think!

lol! Brill, will do!

I might give this a go too, just for the hell of it!

Anyone else report their findings? :)

Ok guys...

I went to halfords today and couldn't find it at all :( Also popped into motor world.

Could anyone help me out? Want to do this on my girlfriends 205 gti as well as most of the connectors are filthy / old!!!

I'm truly sorry - I meant Maplins - had to ask a bit, but they found a big tube of the stuff....I had just visited Halford before that and got confused:rolleyes:

Lame! We don't have a maplins here, nearest place is like 60 miles away.

Might have find some cheap stuff on the net then.

That's the stuff mate - go for it. Sorry about the mixup - spent a long time first in Halfords looking for the grease, then found it at Maplins....

getting old too fast I guess....

Good luck

Bas

Thats the website i got mine from, i thought it was a bargain at

That's the stuff matey - you have to get it from behind the parts counter rather than off the shop floor. I've checked the website posted earlier and it is exactly the same stuff. Do let us know how you get on with it.

Going to give this a try too I think. Interested in the results of those who try it...

is the MAF plug located just after the airbox on the pd130 engine?>

I'm thinking this might be a little better than I posted before;

Maplin > Multi Purpose Silicone Grease

At the bottom it's availabe in 50g... for
